"I think we should tell someone. At least your mother." Mon-El said. We were at work, ordering boxes and cleaning. We worked in a small shop in Argo's market. In our twenties we couldn't access jobs with more responsibility.
"I know we've been dating for a few months, but I'm afraid she won't take it well and kick you out of Argo. You know the rest of the Council is waiting for you to do something wrong to make you leave." I responded.
"I know, but I don't want to hide anymore. I want to take your hand and walk around like a normal couple. Or go out to dinner. Or just being at home, on the couch, hugging." Mon-El looked around, checking that no one was looking, and put his hand on mine and stroked it.
"Believe me, I want to do all this too, but it's hard." I put my other hand on his, and I kept looking at him. After a short pause, I continued talking. "I'll do it. I'll tell my mother we're together. But I have to find the right moment." Now I was the one who looked around me to make sure nobody was there. I wrapped my arms around Mon-El's neck and gave him a brief kiss on the lips.

*El's house. Days later*
"Mom, I'm home." I left my shoes at the entrance and went to the living room, where my mother was.
"Hello, honey. How was your day?"
"Today there was a lot of work, so I'm exhausted." I sat next to her on the sofa and we were silent for a few minutes.
"I've seen you different for days, thoughtful and absent." Of course I'm like this. I've been thinking for days about telling you that I'm dating the prince of our enemy planet. "Is something wrong? Everything okay with Mon-El?" That last question strained me right away. Did my mother know about us?
"With Mon-El? Yes, everything's perfect." I tried not to sound as nervous as possible, but it was in vain. My mother didn't say anything, she just kept quiet, and that was her best weapon to make me talk. After a long sigh to calm me down, I finally got the courage to tell her. "There's something going on with Mon-El, Mom." Alura put her body forward, elbows resting on her knees, giving me all her attention. "But it's not bad. See, I really don't know how to tell you this. Mon-El and I. . . I don't want you to take this the wrong way, mom, but Mon-El and I are dating." My mother kept quiet for a few seconds and then, to my surprise, she started laughing. "Why are you laughing?"
"It's just. . . it's just that I already knew." I frowned, because I thought we had hidden our relationship well. "I realized something was going on when I started to see you smiling. You'd come home from work like you'd come from the theatre. So I figured you were like this because of the person you spent the most hours with each day."
"So you're not angry?"
"I'm a little upset that it took you so long to tell me, but I'll get over it." Alura smiled at me. "But I'm not mad that you're dating Mon-El. Maybe months ago I would be, but he looks like a nice guy. And most importantly, it makes you happy." I couldn't help it and I went over to her to give her a hug.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner."

I woke up when a ray of sunshine bothered me. I realized I wasn't on the couch, I was levitating. I went down to the floor to check that I was alone. Where were Lar and Alex? It was a weekday, I'd have to be at Catco and Lar at school! How could I slept? Why didn't Alex wake me up? What if something happened to them? I took my cell phone and dialed Alex's number as fast as I could. Suddenly the door opened and Alex appeared, her cell phone ringing in her hand.
"Where have you been? Where's Lar?"
"He's at school. And you have the day off. I've already spoken to Winn."
"What?"
"Kara, yesterday you came back at 4am. And you had a day full of emotions. When I saw you this morning asleep almost on the roof, I thought you could use some rest. Humans have personal days at work, which you use when you're sick."
"Well, thank you, I guess. But you scared me."
"I tried to wake you up, but it was impossible, so I left you a note on the counter. I should have left it on the table. I'm sorry."
"It's all right. Thanks for caring about me and taking Lar to school." I gave her a hug to calm my nerves. "How did he wake up after last night?"
"He was a little quieter than usual but I guess it's normal." We had breakfast quietly in the apartment talking about work. The morning went by quite quickly, but at least I was able to take a breath from all the changes I was experiencing in my life. "I almost forgot. You may have the day off as Kara, but you have a job like Supergirl, and it's not exactly saving someone. Well maybe save your job and Winn's." I turned to Alex, opening my eyes wide open.
"What happened?"
"Cat Grant wants an interview with Supergirl and she may have threatened Winn with lots of firings."
"What?! But when she sees me, she'll recognize me! I work for her."
"Well, maybe you work for her, but she never seems to notice anything but herself and her work."
"Maybe you're right. . . but I don't know, Alex. I don't know if I'll be able to handle Cat Grant's interrogation." I admitted.
"You've survived the destruction of your world twice. You're able to hold out for half an hour with Cat."
"I'm not sure about that." I still agreed, because it was not only my job at stake, but also Winn's and many Catco workers. I put on my suit and flew to Catco's offices, not without first warning Winn to report back to Mrs. Grant.
"Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, of course it's not. It's the one and only Supergirl." She paraphrased Cat Grant as she walked out of her office with a glass of whiskey.
"Mrs. Grant. I was told you wanted to talk to me." I tried to pitch down my voice, to try to differentiate it from my original voice.
"As you know, I want to interview you. And before you refuse, I have to tell you that someone like you needs good press to keep doing what they do, and I can give you that."
"I'll answer whatever I think is appropriate."
"I expected nothing less. Well, Supergirl, what's your name?"
"I'm not going to answer that. I prefer to be called by the name you gave me yourself."
"I had to try." Cat smiled. "Well, how do you have powers? Is it some kind of scientific invention or maybe something paranormal? Alien?"
"I come from a planet called Krypton, which exploded after a series of bad environmental decisions. I came to Earth and saw that I had these powers. And I decided that one way to thank this planet for its hospitality was to help its inhabitants from the evils that might be caused."
"I see. Why that plane and not other accidents that have happened before?"
"Well, I wanted to feel sure I could control my powers and avoid doing more harm than good. Also on a personal level I needed to feel confident that I was able to take this step."
"Are you the only alien on Earth?" Cat took a sip of her drink. At the moment she didn't seem to know who I really was.
"I certainly don't know, but probably. If I'm here, it's safe to say that there might be others. I would also like to be a voice for them, so that they feel safe on this new planet."
"So you came alone? No one went with you on your escape? A partner, kids?" I didn't really expect that question, so I was caught off guard.
"We're done." It was the only thing I could say and I flew out as fast as I could. Seconds later I regretted that answer, because it implied that I hadn't come here alone, and Cat was smart enough to know how to use that information. I flew to my apartment and texted Alex to ask her to come over and eat something. I got in the shower because I needed to think about all my answers. Would I have uncovered anything that would endanger my family? I couldn't wait for the article to come out to see for myself.

Half an hour later Alex arrived, holding a couple of boxes of pizza.
"I invited you to lunch, not the other way around." I told her while I was taking the boxes.
"Well, I passed by the pizza place and I couldn't resist." I put the pizzas on the table and we sat across from each other. "How was the interview?" I told her that it had gone well overall, but that I was worried about the answer I had given her as to whether I had come alone or not. "Cat Grant is not a fool. But she is also a person. We'll have to see what she writes, but I don't think she'll jeopardize Lar's security to win a few clicks."
"I hope so. In any case, I'll ask her tomorrow, to keep me calmed." We were having lunch and talking about Alex's morning at the DEO and the rest of the interview. Then Alex had to leave, and I was busy putting out a fire in a housing building. It was really comforting to help all these people. My world no longer existed, but I will do my best to keep it alive and to ensure that humans do not suffer the loss that I suffered.
