"Grandma!" Lar couldn't help himself and went over to the hologram. He tried to hug it thinking it was really Alura but when he passed through it he understood everything.
"Lar, honey. Sit here with us." I made space for him on the couch so he could sit down again. Lar obeyed and I hugged him. "Just today you told me you didn't remember her voice. . . With these messages we will always be able to hear them." I kissed him on the forehead while I held back my tears. Alex started the recording and my mother, or rather her hologram, started talking.
"My name is Alura Zor-El, I come from the planet Krypton and now live in Argo, a city that survived the explosion and destruction of the planet. This is a message to my family, in case something went wrong and I'm gone. [...]
Lar. When I recorded this, you weren't even three years old. I don't know how many you'll have now, but I'm sure you're pretty tall and handsome. I hope that with this recording you can always remember me, your grandmother, who will always love you.
Mon-El. I never thought I'd say this about a Daxamite, and even less to the Prince of Daxam. Thank you for appearing in my daughter's life and making her so happy when the moment we were going through wasn't at all easy for either of us. You made her smile again. Thank you for giving me this wonderful grandson I have, who will surely inherit your sympathy and generosity. Thank you for serving not only a planet that wasn't yours, but for serving your enemy planet with the honor and strengh you do. Just thank you.
And daughter. Kara. You don't know how sorry I am that I can't be here with you even though I know for sure that you'll get through, like you always do, a little bit stronger. You are my reason for being, daughter, and I will always be proud of the person you are, of your selflessness for others. Serving the community and always looking out for your family. Even though your father isn't here to tell you anymore, I speak for both of us when I say you're the best thing that ever happened to us. Wherever we are, you must know that you can always count on us. Kara, I love you very much, and I hope you never see this message and I can tell you this in person. Never forget, we'll always be here. El mayarah."
The message, which also contained information about her position in the Argo society and a farewell to Kal, ended with a blurry Alura that disappeared from our view. Lar was crying, as I was , who couldn't resist. Alex had watery eyes.
"Shall I put the next one?" Asked Alex. I looked at her and nodded even though I knew who the next message was from.
"I am Mon-El, also called Lar Gand, Prince of Daxam, although I have waived that right. I currently live in Argo, city of Krypton, the enemy planet from which I come. In this city, not only have they welcomed me with open arms, but I have also been able to have a family. I'll always be grateful to this planet for that. [...]
I would like to end this communication by addressing a few words to my wife and son.
Starlight, Lar. I hope that if you're with your mother, you'll always listen to her and be good. If, on the contrary, you are alone or someone has taken you in, always show gratitude to the one who helps you. You are the greatest gift life has ever given me, son, and I want you to always remember that your father loves you and will always protect you wherever you go. Always remember this, Lar. Always, always, I'll love you, Starlight.
Kara. I love you. I love you like I've never been able to love you. I know if you see this, it means I'm gone, but I don't want you to get discouraged. I want you to be optimistic, as you always have been. I want you to keep being the mother you are with Lar. Keep playing your puzzles that make you so nervous and that I've never been able to understand. I want you to smile, because it would be a shame if the people around you would miss the wonderful smile you have. I want you to heal, meet new people, get excited about meeting someone again. I want you to be happy, without regrets. Enjoy life, because it's worth it. I could make this message last for days, but your mother already told me that's not possible. Anyway, Kara Zor-El, I love you. Don't ever forget that."
"Daddy. . ." Lar whispered. He came up to me and buried his head in my chest and I hugged him and kissed him on the head. The three of us were crying unconsolably and so we went on for another half hour, until I realized that Lar had fallen asleep in my arms.
"Stay here tonight. It's getting late and it's better not to wake Lar. You can sleep on my bed and I'll sleep on the couch." Alex suggested.
"You sleep with Lar and I'll sleep on the couch. After all, my back won't hurt tomorrow." I tried to joke, to de-stress the sad atmosphere that had remained. Alex smiled at me and nodded to my plan. I took Lar to Alex's bed and undressed him and put on him pajamas that I had brought on an emergency day in case Lar ever slept at Alex's house. Poor kid didn't even noticed, he must have been exhausted after so many emotions. I went back to the living room and found Alex uncorking a bottle of red wine.
"I thought you might need it." She said, and she handed me a glass.
"Actually, I do." Alcohol didn't work on me like it did on humans, but I liked the taste of wine.
"I haven't told you before but thank you for sharing this important part of your life with me."
"What I said before is true and you're like the sister I never had. I feel stronger and stronger to share my past, and having you here today has helped me a lot." We were on the couch, whispering not to wake Lar.
"Your husband. . . Mon-El, right?" I nodded. "Lar's just like him."
"Since day one. When he was born, I was angry with Mon-El for like a week because I couldn't believe that after nine months of carrying him, he didn't look anything like me." Alex laughed. And I imitated her. "Although now I'm happy that he is because it's like having a mini Mon-El with me."
"I don't know if it's too much to intrude, but how did you guys meet?"
"You don't. At all. As you've heard before, Krypton and Daxam were enemy planets, so at first there was a lot of friction. . ."

*Argo, 9 years ago. Two months after the destruction of Krypton*
"We can't keep a Daxamite here. Especially the prince himself." My mother was talking. "It could be a trap, and what good would it do us to have survived the destruction of Krypton?"
"But until he wakes up, we won't know his intentions. And I know we shouldn't trust the Daxamites, but after what we've been through, I think the least he deserves is an explanation." I answered her.
"We'll wait for him to wake up, but if I don't like what I see, the daxamite will go."
"If the daxamite stays, it must be entered in the civil registry of Argo." One of the council members said.
"We don't even know his name."
"Why don't we call him Mon-El? Today is Monday and we add the El because it will have to belong to some family to be registered."
"I'm not convinced to name that Daxamite after my family, but when he wakes up, we'll know his name." Sentenced Alura. The boy who carried the subject of the registry left to write down the new inhabitant of Argo. Five minutes later, a hospital technician showed up.
"He's awakened." We went to the room where the daxamite, Mon-El, was handcuffed.
"The Prince of Daxam himself. Up and ready to talk." Commented Hyr, a member of the council.
"Who are you? Where am I?" He seemed disoriented. He was looking back and forth, frantic.
"You're in Argo, city of Krypton." My mother answered.
"Krypton. . . fucking bastards! My planet is dead because of you!" Mon-El tried to get rid of the handcuffs, in vain.
"And that's why you came here? To seek revenge?" Hyr accused him.
"I ran away from Daxam when it started to collapse. I got out as fast as I could. I don't know what plan you're talking about." Mon-El justified himself.
"What's your name?" I Asked. My mother turned to me because she didn't expect me to speak. It was also the first time I met the look of the Prince of Daxam. He was young, maybe a couple of years older than me.
"My name is Lar Gand and, as you know, I am the Prince of Daxam. I must return to my planet as soon as possible and let my people know I'm okay." Those of us present looked at each other, because no one dared to tell him the truth. In the end it was I who, attracted by the intensity of his gaze, spoke.
"There's no Daxam to go back to, Lar Gand. It exploded hours after the destruction of Krypton."

"It was a hard blow to him, as you can tell, and that made him act hostile the first week on Argo." I was explaining to Alex.
"Did you believe him from the beginning? Didn't you think maybe he was lying?"
"Argo's council wanted to banish him, make him go to another planet because there was no room for him there. And even though my mother thought the same thing at first, I finally convinced her that we should give him a chance. That Krypton and Daxam no longer existed and therefore their war did not exist. She was hard to convince, but in the end I got it. And since unanimity was needed in the council for these kinds of issues, Mon-El stayed. Of course, on my own responsibility."
"Wow, it looks like you wore the superhero suit long before you got to Earth." I laughed. "I guess they had to agree with you in the end."
"In time. And when we'd been secretely dating for a few months." I put my hand on my head and started laughing. A few months ago, remembering these moments would have torn me apart, but now I remembered it with nostalgia. The wound was still there, but it was healing.
"Well, I've loved knowing more of you today, but it's getting late and I must wake up early tomorrow." Alex got off the couch. "Tomorrow you keep telling me." I also got up and we hugged. Suddenly we heard police sirens, so I went to the window. Several police cars appeared to be chasing another car.
"I think that's your sign." Alex smiled at me. I unbuttoned my shirt and showed her the suit for the first time. "Winn's a handyman for these things."
"I'll be right back." I opened the window and flew out towards the altercation. I felt liberated, as if my past no longer haunted me and began to be a part of me that has made me who I am right now.
