Newt was aware of the rocks under his head when he woke, he was laying in Keisha's tent, Dante breathing softly next to him. He pushed himself up on his hands and yawned. Keisha being gone didn't surprise him; she had most likely gone with Jackie to get breakfast. Since they had arrived, she had become more comfortable leaving Dante (if Newt was close of course). The wrinkles made from stress had started to dissipate slowly and Keisha finally started to get the life she deserved. He scanned the surrounding, the tent was tidy, piles of clothes and boxes of toys stacked neatly in the corner. Dante sneezed loudly and Newt jumped whipping his head around to face the toddler who had a small line of snot running from his nose, his green eyes still groggy from sleep. The older boy crawled over to him grabbing a tissue on his way over. He picked him up gently and sat him on his lap facing toward his chest. Newt then slowly cleaned the goop of his face; Dante didn't seem to mind him cleaning his face, he just sat there calmly as Newt finished with the tissue.

Newt then pulled the small boy toward him, wrapping him in a warm embrace. He only moved when Dante started squirming. He put him down, stretched on more time reaching up until his back cracked then resumed holding the little boy this time standing and walking out of the tent.

At this point he knew when to walk. Turn left and walk up the rock pathway to get to his sister's and her girlfriend's tent, turn right to get to a small circle of tents with Brenda, Jorge, Minho, and Gally shared. Today he simply turned his head to find Jackie's tent right next to Keisha's, the flap was open and fluttered in the light breeze. He made his way over there careful not to trip on the uneven gravel bellow his feet.

"Jackie?" Newt called into the open tent "Jac-"

He peaked into the tent, as he suspected it was empty. This tent was as far from clean as you could get, the toys and books were everywhere from one on the mattress to one in her shoe as if it were trying to walk away. Newt chucked softly at the girl's disorganization, she reminded him of Lizzy when she was little so much.

Now that he was finally reunited with his sister, he thought a whole inside him would disappear but while Lizzy was supposedly his everything a small part of him still ached for love, not just any love, not the sisterly love he felt every day from both Sonya and Jackie, not the sweet motherly love he had always craved for that was now filled by Keisha, not the brotherly love he felt from the former Gladers. No, his heart needed something more, something that every person on the Earth deserved immune or not, he wanted the person who could fix his broken heart.

The sun shown bright over the hills as Newt made his way around the camp in search of Keisha and Jackie. Dante was now fully awake and waddled next to Newt babbling at passing people.

"Hi, hi, hiidi hi" The boy sang to himself

Newt smiled so warmly at him that passers walking by and smiled at the two.

"Your little brother is so cute!" A women said to Newt when she saw Dante and Newt didn't have time to correct her before she was out of sight.

They even managed to bump into a friend that Dante's, her name was Lily, and she was 5. She had one of her front teeth missing and always wore her short curly hair in pigtails. He and Dante chased each other around Newt until they were both worn out and then dragged him to the kitchen to ask for a drink.

The little quick footsteps were easy to keep up with for Newt with his long legs usually, but the uneven rock which was a problem earlier that morning wasn't any better there. He tripped and stumbled and almost face-planted in the rock's multiple times. He felt very accomplished when he reached the kitchen without one single cut. Frypan stood at a stove examining something that smelled like spaghetti and meatballs. Newt's stomach growled, he only now realized that he had forgotten to have breakfast and was now impossibly hungry.

"Fry!!!" Lily squealed and bolted to the older boy.

Frypan looked startled at the sudden outburst but quickly settled into the feeling of having guests.

"Hey Lil, do you want to taste?"

He ruffled her hair and the girl giggled.

"Yes, yes, yes!!!" She opened her mouth and Fry spooned her a large spoonful of tomato sauce with little chunks of meat mixed in.

Lily took the spoon and stuffed the entire thing in her mouth, very excited to taste Fry's food. She gave her spoon back to the boy which was now licked clean and tried reaching to the stove for more, but he stopped her.

"Noo, we have to save the rest for everyone else."

She only pouted for a few seconds before jumping back up,

"Can me and Danty have a drink pwease?" she asked.

Fry smiled at her and walked over to the fridge on the other side of the kitchen. He pulled out a pitcher of lemonade a grabbed two plastic cups.

"Do you want some Newt?" He asked the blond boy.

"No thanks Fry," Newt replied smoothly "but if you do have any food left from breakfast, I forgot to eat this morning."

Frypan smiled dryly "Yeah, Minho noticed you weren't at breakfast asked me to leave some food for you, it's on the counter"

Newt made a metal note to thank Minho later and grabbed the plate on the counter which had a fried egg, two pieces of bacon, and a small helping of baked beans. Newt devoured it soaking in the wonderful tastes of home. He did, however, manage to control himself enough to feed Dante half the egg and one piece of bacon.

About a half an hour later, they left the kitchen bidding farewell to Frypan, and made their way down the uneven rocks. On their way back Newt found Keisha and Jackie and then proceeded to follow them to the pavilion for a game day, which had old board games, arts, and crafts. When they got there the last person he expected was standing nervously at the entrance. Thomas, he had a clean looking blue t-shirt and brown shorts on, his face was clean and held a neutral expression. Newt was suddenly conscious of his messy hair and sweat covered clothes.

"I'll meet you inside" Keisha whispered in his ear and plucked Dante from his arms and she and Jackie quickly made their way inside.

They both stood in awkward silence for a few seconds before Thomas finally spoke.

"Can I talk to you" He said, "in private?"

Newt nodded and Thomas motioned for him to follow him to his tent. When they reached it, Newt sat near the entrance while Thomas sat on his bed. Newt looked around and noticed books everywhere, on the ground in piles on a chair and strewn across his bed. Thomas took a deep breath,

"Look Newt.... I'm sorry I reacted so dramatically, and I know it's wrong to blame you for what happened, and I'm ready to start over with you if I can forget what you did and said to me do you think you could maybe... Maybe do the same."

Thomas looked at him hopefully, Newt should have felt overwhelmed by joy at the prospect of getting his friend back, but something still ached inside of him, never less he smiled at Thomas and gave him a quick nod.

Thomas beamed at him and stuck out his hand for a handshake,

"Friends?"

Newt took his hand and felt his heart drop into a pit as he replied, copying Thomas's smile.

"Friends."
