"Seriously, Kenji?"

After Kenji flung the compy aside, we crossed our arms. Brooklynn rolled her eyes and sent him a look. Yasmina pointed at the compy, now surrounded by a dozen friends.

"And uh... it's not alone," Yas said.

"We need to go!" Darius said, "In a group, compies can–"

"Not the time for a history lesson Dino-nerd!" Kenji snorted while I crouched beside the compies.

Although I've seen them out of their pens a few times around the park, the ACU men quickly sent them back. I've read a little about them, and Darius was over-the-brim with dino facts about them. I reached out cautiously to not scare them and tried to pet them. I yelped.

Two compies leapt onto my chest, pushing me to the floor. The one I tried to pet earlier nipped at my makeshift bandage till it tore and began poking at my wound.

I screamed and grabbed it, flinging it to the side while I called the others for help. But it was no use! They had started arguing, and their voices were as loud as my screams!

More compies jumped onto me as I lay on the cold concrete floor. The weird metallic smell of blood wafted past my nose, alongside the compy who scratched my cheek. Another bit my uninjured arm, and when I pulled it off, it left bite marks and drops of blood.

Looking at the compies around me, I saw weird foamy saliva around their mouths and shuddered. Looking back at my wounds, I felt like vomiting; the same foamy saliva residue was inside and around them!

I called for the others again, but it seemed pointless! I reached to grab another of the violent mini-carnivores when a wave of drowsiness washed over me. I felt my stomach lurch.

That weird foam coming from the compies - I knew what it was! Why did this happen!? I couldn't remember the side effects, but I hoped they weren't as bad as my stomach told me.

I glanced at my arm, kicking at other compies when my breath hitched and my pupils grew. They had ripped at the fabric around my arm, exposing my wound! And there was another compy perched on top, nipping at the gash!

I screamed louder than before, And the fighting and arguing finally faded.

"Kiara!"

Darius ran to my side and grabbed the compy that ate at my wound. The others came to help, throwing and kicking the pesky things away.

Thank you!" I gasped, crouching with my hands on my knees as I struggled to regain my breath.

A second passed when Kenji grabbed me from behind and hugged me tight.

"You absolute idiot. Why didn't you say something?" he said.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes, "No, really. I thought screaming loudly would be enough to get your attention."

Kenji nudged my side and froze when he glanced down. I followed his gaze to my arm and legs and wanted to cry. I was covered with tiny bites and exposed flesh. I shouldn't have wasted time making a bandage now that the compies had shredded it. And my arm was bleeding again!

"Kiara, are you okay?" Kenji asked quietly.

I smiled weakly, "Yeah, I'll be fine. Once we get on the ferry, I'm sure there'll be nurses!"

"That's right," Sammy burst in with a wide smile. "Everything will be fine once we get on the ferry, so if you're sure you're alright, we should get goin'!"

I nodded, and Kenji jumped up, raising and gesturing his hand for us to follow. We walked for a few seconds when we heard a ferocious roar. It was scarily familiar...
