When I get back to the parking space, everyone had left already. I pull my phone from my pocket to call Chris and stopped when I see the notification on my lock screen.
*Sorry bro we're leaving. See ya at the Grill* His text said.
I'm damn sure something's not right here. I can smell the fishy vibes coming from this 'Shane's surprise idea'. I shove my phone back into my pocket and unlock the car.
"Hey, Jace...." Someone calls me.
You? Why the hell your timing is always so wrong? My brain speaks.
Ash and the other girl are standing on the other side of the parking. I don't know why but she's so intimidating. I was totally lost in her when she suddenly snap her fingers in front of my eyes.
"Hey!" She said with fierce in her eyes. "Look, I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude to you, and thanks for dropping me."
The other girl pulls out her phone from the pocket of her well-pleated skirt and asks "Give me your QR"
"You don't really have to pay" I scoffed. And move to get in the car.
Ashley pulls me from my jacket and made me face her. "You're right, she doesn't." She took out a black leather wallet with a pink bow imprinted on it. And few pearls are attached to the bow. Suits her perfectly. Not so girlish and not that simple either. She took out some bills and shove them in my jacket.
"Why nobody told me we've got Lady Richie Rich at our school" I scoffed again and my eyes rolled automatically. She is trying hard to keep herself calm. With gritted teeth, she mumble "I gave extra because you are dropping me at Grill."
I raised a brow and look at the other girl to ask why the hell I play your driver. I do have a well-paid internship. But my lips are sealed when I came to my senses.
"Not her, just me I had already paid you and you are dropping me." She walks to the other side of the car and slides in. My eyes are darting at her and she smiled. Even though it's a wicked smile but I can feel the pupil dilate in my eyes.
"What about you?" I ask the other girl.
"I'm coming too" she replied in a thin voice.
"No, you're not" Ash barks from the car.
"Yes I am, or you won't be going anywhere either." She demands.
"Go home sweety" she waves off her hand like telling Mia to give her side.
"I am not" she raised her voice. "And if you're not coming with me, I'm gonna tell Mom about last night."
Mom?
Ash jumps off the car and grabs the strap of Mia's bag,
"Then go and say whatever you wanna say to that all-so-perfect sugar syrup." Her voice was low and calm but her actions and her eyes are exactly the opposite. "Tell dad Ash is bullying me." Her voice took to raise. "just leave" she shouts and Mia back off and trips on her shoe but balance herself.
They're sisters? But they seem so opposite. No, they can't be they don't even look similar, like sisters.
"Why are you always like this? Why can't you be normal?" She cries and left running.
"LEAVE ME ALONE" Ash screams word by word.
She sat back in the car and buccal her belt. I can see she's exhausted but controlling her well.
I don't give a damn about anything but I wonder what was all this about? I thought to ask but I don't wanna seem too interested in it.
......
The ride to the Grill was in awkward silence. I still don't know why I'm dropping her.
Everything around is driving me mad. I groan and park my car. Ash left before I get down and opens the gate for her. Who cares? I shove the keys in my pocket and cross the parking suppressing the urge to be a gentleman around her.
At the front gate, I met Chris. "What's inside?" I ask him.
"I have no clue. This place has never been this crowded before." He shrugs and looks at me.
"I really am not having any good vibe from here." As my mouth says the words my mind reminds me of Ash. "Where is she?" I ask Chris.
"Who?" He scowls. "Ashley... where's she?" My eyes look around to find her but no clue. "She's here?" Now he starts finding her.
"What Shane is planning!" I ask him.
"I don't know I thought you know that already.""As if"
I don't have any good experiences with surprises, especially when it comes to this group.
"Didn't they tell you anything?" I narrow my eyes. "You were with them this entire day."
"No, I was here all by myself. I was tired from this new gym routine, so I was sleeping in the back room."
"No wonder you were sleeping."
There's a room at the back of the Grill. Chris, Shane, and I use to drink there a lot. We use to hang out there all the time. It was not just our drinking spot, I use to come here when I want a break from the rest of the world.
"Let's see what hell is waiting for us" I shrugged and he nods.
We enter the smoky hall echoing with loud thuds and howls. My eyes are searching for Shane or anyone from the group of fuck heads. I spot Riy's Pink highlights on the usual Couch sitting on his boyfriend. Chris sat on the other side in front of Tyler and Riy. I sat beside him still searching for Shane.
"Why don't you guys choke each other?" I mock.
Making love is alright, but these two disgust me.
"Why? Don't you have someone to lay down with?" Tyler mocks back.
"Oh! Poor Jace." Followed by his annoying girlfriend.
"Fuck off!" I rolled my eyes and sip my drink. Chilled coke running down my throat relaxed me.
"Do you know anything about what surprise Shane is planning?" Riy asked.
"What? You don't know too?" Chris looks at me.
"No, we thought you might know," Tyler responded shockingly.
What the hell is this all about? It's been half an hour and there's no sign of Shane. Now this music is killing me. I might get up and leave any minute. And I'm sick of watching these two already. Chris is enjoying the music and busy stalking girls around. He's never gonna change.
"I'm leaving, are you coming with me?" I ask Chris.
"There he is." Chris points out towards the entrance. We all snap our heads at the gate and Shane shows up wearing an olive-colored t-shirt and black jeans. His dark hair gives his face a mature look. He is a muscular man.
"Is that... Callie?" Tyler stands up in shock his eyes wide.
My gaze follows his towards Shane followed by a shiny dark, long-haired curvy girl. Flaunting her perfect curls. She smiles brightly waving at us.
"Callie?" I whisper.
Good, Everyone is now starting at me. No! This is not happening. Not now.
Shit! This is gonna so awkward. I have to leave. Right now.
