I stand before the great marble pillars, which lead to the entrance of my new high school. 'Springfield High School: Home Of The Wasps', read the sign above the entrance. It's been the third time I've moved in the past five years.

My father's work is always dragging us someplace new. We stay for a few years, and then it's back on the road, heading to the next job. I've never been able to keep a friendship for more than a few months after I left; they would always stop talking to me.

That's why, this year, I'm going with a low profile. If I don't have any friends to begin with, then I don't have to lose them. Sure, it may be a lonely existence, but I'm used to the silence at home. May as well introduce it to my school life.

I shove my hands into the pockets of my hoodie, popping a bubble-gum bubble before I walk past the towers of marble, and into the front doors of the school. No wonder they call us the wasps; all I hear is the droning of other students. I can't even hear myself think!

I walk towards the main office, getting a good view of the population of this school. We have the punk kids, jocks, nerds, the couple that are always sucking face. You know, the usual. I walk inside, and sit down. Soon, the desk attendant produces my schedule, and hands it to me with a warm smile

" Here you go, sir! If you need help, ask one of the hall monitors. Do you need a pass, in case you are late? " she ask, voice overly cheerful.

"Uh....I-I guess. T-Thank you..." I stutter. I slap myself mentally, thinking I had just made a fool of myself. The attendant giggles quietly, and writes out a quick pass, her signature a bunch of squiggles.

"Your name, hon?" she asks, still smiling at the nervous boy.

"Uhm...L-Lucas" I say, shifting the weight of my backpack some. She soon rips the pass off of the booklet, and passes it to me

"Here ya go, hon! Have a nice day!" She says with a happy tone. I nod some, and walk out quickly. I take a look at my schedule.

"D218...well, I'll find it eventually." I whisper to myself, and I begin my search for math class.

A hall monitor soon catches me, and asks where I am going. Typical school police.

"I'm new to the school....h-here is my pass...". I say, handing the pink slip of paper to the monitor.

"I-I'm kinda lost" The hall monitor reads it over, then gives me instructions to my room, since the number was on the pass. I thank him promptly, then rush off.

I soon find D218, and sigh with relief. I walk in quickly, pass in hand. The teacher glares at me for the moment.

"Why are you late, young man?!" He says with a stern voice. I start to shudder in my place, looking like a scared animal.

"I-I'm sorry, sir! I-I'm new, a-and got lost!" I say quickly. At this, the teacher's face quickly turns sincere.

"My lord, I'm sorry! You must be Lucas, yes?". I slowly nods, looking at the teacher with fear still.

"H-Here is my pass....". I hold my pass out with a shaky hand. The teacher takes it, and shakes my still outstretched hand.

"I'm Mr. Miller...welcome to Springfield! " he says, patting my back. "Now, go sit down son."

I walk nervously to the back of the room, and slump down into a chair. I sit by myself, and pull out a binder. Today is gonna be a long day....
