Larry wasn't in class today, which was odd but I just chalked it up to being tired from last night. The day dragged on slowly. A lesson about squares, a lecture about the Civil War. Mainly random trivia.
When lunch finally arrives, I get a text as I'm sitting down with my tray. I open it up to see a message from Larry, it reads:
"Sal, I love you man. We've been through so much together and I was honored to call you my friend. I'm sorry for not being strong. Please take care of my mom."
The world slowed in front of me. I felt my feet slamming against the cold, tile floor. I heard concerned voices asking where I was going, what was wrong. I had no time to stop and chat. I burst through the front door and ran across town to Addison Apartments. Lisa was in the front yard with a shocked and concerned look on her face.
"Sal, is everything okay? Shouldn't you be at school?"
"Have you talked to Larry?" I asked frantically, my head is a mix of fuzzy thoughts and emotions.
"Not since this morning, why?" I shoved past her and ran inside, calling out for him, hoping and praying to every God I knew that I wasn't too late. I burst in through the bathroom door and screamed. The air left my body at what I saw; I dropped to my knees.
