I was feeling extremely sleepy but then had to run and reach the place quickly. The Jewellry shop would close at 10'o clock and it was 9:30 pm it would take me 5 more minutes to reach the Jewellery that means in 25 minutes I had to talk to the jeweller and convince him that his business will increase if he advertised in our magazine (there is no guarantee by the way). As I was crossing the road I remembered how just 4 years ago my parents had asked me to join an engineering college but instead I chose to graduate in History and Literature. " You wont find a job if you study history and even if you get a job it will be a job which will pay you pennies" said my father "I will be a writer for magazine or journalist''
''But it is only experienced writers who get paid a lot and remember our family cannot wait for decades for you to support your family" my father replied, which was true but because of ignorance of youth(maybe life) I joined a arts college. It took me 4 years to graduate even though course was only for 3 years because I flunked 1 year after joining college I suddenly stopped studying and lost interest in classes. After graduation I found it very difficult to find a job my parents had already lost hope on me but then I got a job in Reader's Digest ( weekly magazine) I was extremely happy I had just proved my parents wrong but the day I entered the office I came to know that I was not hired for writing but for marketing and bring clients to advertise in magazine. I felt betrayed but still I continued to work thinking that once I get into the organization then I will show my talent then they would take me as writer but even that dream vanished when I came to know that Reader's Digest was actually a British magazine which had around 6000 readers in India and 4000 of them were in Mumbai and what ever was published in the magazine in UK same thing was printed here but they would do minor changes like if an article was 'THE SLEEPING NIGHTS' by Allen Lake then they would publish the same thing only difference was that they would change the name 'THE SLEEPING NIGHTS' by Dinesh Kumar reason they would give is that so that its relatable to public here so there were no writers in Reader's Digest India office then I thought what if I applied for writer in their main office in UK but I heard that even in UK they were facing stiff competition from their competitor "THE BANNER" and were firing employees every day. Actually today was supposed to be my holiday but what had happened was that there was a story in our magazine about a girl who was a candle seller and had won a scholarship to Harvard but there was a line in the article which read FOUND HER FLICKING THE CANDLE but instead they mistyped it as FOUND HER FUCKING THE CANDLE now this human error was taken in a fun way in UK and it even became viral because of social media and I heard that ,that weeks issue of Reader's Digest even outsold THE BANNER and advertisers were even ready to pay more so that magazine does more mistakes like this purposely. As in India we ended up printing the same thing same mistake was repeated but in India for some reason it had a different some 4,5 advertisers pulled out of our magazines contract(which was foolish on their side because if you read the line in context of story then obviously you would have come to know that its a mistake) this meant that even our own sponsors don't read our magazine my other colleagues were trying to get other advertisers this jeweller was my last chance .As I was walking and thinking of all this I reached the jeweller's shop .Outside the jewellers shop ,road was very dusty and had potholes filled with water from yesterdays rain and and along the edge of the road cars ,scooters and bikes were parked randomly and just outside jewellers shop a jaguar was parked which seemed out of place . I entered the shop and some person opened the door for me and in the counter sat Mr Jain the owner of the shop. I think from my clothes he understood that I could not be a customer or maybe he is rude to everyone because first thing he asked me was
"who are you, why are you here ? "I had called you in the morning sir for advertising in our magazine'' I said
''Yes yes we had talked over the phone .Why so late?''
