I looked at the girl’s face closely as she picked up the paper. She suddenly looked vulnerable. I didn’t bother picking my sheets up, since I know what would probably be on it.
The girl suddenly mumbled something.
“What?” I asked.
She said in a louder voice, “My name is Kiara. What’s yours?”
“Oh.” I said.
Her face turned sad and gloomy all of the sudden. She looked hurt. I suddenly felt guilty. What’s wrong with me? Why am I being so mean to her? I think it’s because I feel like I should stay away from her. I just don’t want to get tangled up with another girl when I have a girlfriend I guess.
“I’m sorry. I think I’m just over reacting.” I said to her.
“It’s fine, I understand.” she said sounding a little bit happier.
“Well, my name is Blanchard, but my friend’s call me Blaze.”
“Alright, Blaze. Hmm.. I never really had friends. How does it feel to have friends?” she asked curiously.
I suddenly felt bad for her. I knew that most of our kind were home schooled so life wasn’t as fun for them. Being home schooled sucks but safety is most important sometimes. It took endless begging for me for my parents to actually let me go to a public school.
“Friends are fun to have, but with human friends you have to make sure you never get too attached.” I replied.
“Why’s that?” she asked her face glowing with anticipation.
“Why do you want to know?” I asked teasingly.
“Cus I wannna. And anyways I need to know.” she said with a stubborn face.
“OK, fine I’ll only tell you cuz of your puppy eyes.” I said grinning.
She huffed, which only made me chuckle.
“It’s obvious you idiot.” I said laughing. “You never know when you can depend on a human. And anyways we might leave someday.”
“Hmm..you believe the story that has been passed down from generations?”
“Duh, I bet you that is the reason why we are doing this right now. Fate works in mysterious ways.” I said with a funny voice.
She laughed and said, “It’s impossible that I’m laughing when I’m supposed to be serious.”
“Oh, I’m a very funny person. You gotta love me.”
“You got it.” she said grinning.
“But you see, I have a girlfriend so….” I said quickly to her.
“ I see.” she said sounding a bit disappointed which made me a bit disappointed also.
Wait, what am I thinking again? I mentally slapped myself again for the hundredth time today for being such a traitorous boyfriend to my girlfriend. I shouldn’t be thinking about these things.
“Heh, do you have a boyfriend?” I asked curiously.
“Nahhhhh, you idiot. How can I have a boyfriend when I don’t even have friends?” She said with a straight face.
“Meh. I don’t know.” I said sarcastically while rubbing my head.
“Well.” she said turning her attention back to the sheets of paper in her hand. “You wanna come with me for our parents?”
I hesitated. I wanted to say yes to her immediately but it just feels like I’m betraying my girlfriend at the moment. I think I could handle the situation by myself right now if I wanted to. But then at the same time it’s her that I’m worried about. What if she gets herself killed?
“I have to think about it.” I said slowly to her.
“Alright. I’ll give you a few days to decide. We have plenty of time to prepare and go. I skimmed the letter already and they are willing to give us a few months.”
“Good, well, we will say our farewells now then.” I said.
She mumbled something and when I was about to say what, she disappeared.
“Wait.” I yelled but she was already gone.
“Crap.” I mumbled. How do you get out of here and how is she going to locate me? Oh well, I’ll figure it out later. I grabbed the sheets of paper, confident that they will get me out of this clearing.
