It was a peaceful night for Kuga. The midnight silence comforted him; it seems that no one would disturb him training for the final race in two days. Well, if he were to be honest, he'd love to rest, but every time he tried to get a wink of sleep, his thoughts went back to the dumb, tall, giraffe that stole his heart. So he dealt with it the only way he knew how to; training.
Just as he sat on his bed to rest, a knock was heard. The stripy contestant decided not to budge. Perhaps whoever was behind that door would just leave him be. This time, the knocks were more frantic.
Deciding that they wouldn't give up, he begrudgingly opened the door, only to be met with the giraffe prince. Out of everyone who could've knocked, it was the one person he was trying (and failing miserably) not to think about. Lonky looked as if he had just seen a ghost, hair uncharacteristically messy, quivering with a blanket over him.
"What do you want?" Kuga hissed, keeping up with his tough-guy act.
"Ah. Uhm. Hi- Kuga," Lonky was trying to find his words while fiddling with his fingers. With his hair messy, Kuga thought he looked even cuter.
"Spit it out." He replied, hoping the dark would cover the pink shade on his ears.
"Well I... had a nightmare. I can't go back to sleep. Could I perhaps," he paused for an awkward second. "Stay here for a while? With you?"
The tiger stood there, stunned. "Sure, I guess." He said, moving out of the way so the other could come in.
Lonky sat on one of the chairs, looking exhausted, curling up and resting his head on his knees. "So uh..." Kuga attempted to start conversation. "Why'd you come here?"
"Hm? What?" If they weren't drowsy, the tiger would've grabbed his neck for not hearing him.
"I mean, why come to my room? You could've gone to Popo's." He continued, while wrapping bandages back onto his hands.
"Popo and Pala were already fast asleep. I heard you training earlier, so I came here." Lonky explained, his eyes drooping. It sort of freaked the other out how un-Lonkylike he was right now.
"I'm sorry for disturbing you, I promise I won't stay here for long. I just need to be with someone right now." Was Koga hallucinating? Did the Lonky just apologize? Whatever his nightmare was, it definitely shook him up.
"I'll get some water for the both of us." Kuga said after what felt like hours of awkward silence.
Lonky only hummed in response as he watched the other walk out. He really did not want to be alone with his thoughts right now. All he could think about was his recent nightmares and how oddly real they felt.
He and Popo were running on some sort of moving gigantic beast, running away from who knows what, when he heard shouts and saw what appeared to be Kuga and Miyo being flung upwards. Lonky quickly ran after them, panting, his legs were getting tired, especially with the extra weight that was Popo. The felines had a rough landing on the ground. They were incapable of getting back up. No matter how loud they screamed at them, no matter how fast the duo tried to catch up to them, the two were crushed under the heavy-weight of the beast. "K... Kuga?" was all he could mutter after witnessing his friend lose his life with his own two eyes. Not given any time to process what just happened, black vines grabbed his arms and pulled him away. Popo watched in terror as he was roughly dragged away. Fortunately for Lonky, the dream ended there.
