Chapter 31

Harry's POV

Once they got Jennifer situated and her IV and everything in, it was about two in the afternoon. I sat with Jennifer and held her hand while she dozed off into sleep. At about three an officer showed up and called me into the hallway. I kissed Jen on her head and walked out of her room.

"Harry Connick, Jr.?" the officer asked.

"Yes." I said hesitantly.

"Officer Mike Smith." He said reaching out and shaking my hand, "I need you to come with me for questioning." he said.

"But, I thought i was going to be questioned tomorrow." I said,"I need to stay here. This woman is carying my child for christ's sake! I'm not going anywhere. You can question me right here in this hallway if you need to." I said sitting in the nearest chair.

"If thats what you would like." he said sitting next to me. He pulled out an audio recorder,"I need to record our conversation, its part of the procedure. Now, Mr. Connick I need you to tell me everything you know about the chain of events that has happened today." he said.

And so I began. I told him everything from Beau renting out the apartment to when Jennifer told me that he was her ex boyfriend. I ended with everthing that had happened and what I saw today. I didn't realize that I was crying until he handed me a tissue and patted my back.

"Everything is going to be okay. We got the guy and hopefully with you and Ms. Lopez's help we can keep him in jail." he smiled at me and stood up fixing his coat,"Thank you for your cooperation Mr. Connick. Have a good day." he said and walked away.

I waited a few minutes before I walked back into Jennifer's room. Once I walked in Jen sat up and looked at me.

"Hey, where did you go?" she said settling back into bed as I came and sat next to her.

"The police came by. They needed to question me about what happened." I said taking her hand in mine and kissing it.

"Oh, okay." she said as she absent mindly started rubbing her belly.

I put my hand on top of hers and she stopped and looked down and smiled.

"Thank you for staying with me." she said looking into my eyes.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else." I said putting my other hand on her stomach. She put her hands on mine and let a tear fall.

"I love you." she whispered, still looking down.

"I love you more." I whispered to back.

She scooted over and patted the bed. I climbed in beside her and wrapped my arm around her. I kissed her head as she rested her head on my shoulder. She put both of our hands on her stomach and I could feel her relax. We stayed like that for a couple of minutes before I broke the silence.

"Hey, Jen?" I said stroking her hand with my thumb.

"Yeah?" she said back playing with my fingers.

"Can I ask you something?" I said nervously.

"What is it?" she said still playing with my fingers.

"Will you marry me?" I said. As soon as those words were out of my mouth she sat up and looked at me.

"Are you serious?" she asked.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out the ring I had been carrying around for two weeks.

"As serious as I'll ever be." I said holding the ring.

She covered her mouth and I saw tears form in her eyes. She looked at me and smiled. "Yes." she said in a barely audible whisper.

I let out a breath that I didn't know I had been holding and smiled wide. I wrapped my arms around her and she hugged me back. I let go and held her face in my hands and gently kissed her lips. We pulled away and we were both smiling.

"Oh, almost forgot." I smiled and held out the ring,"I think this belongs to you." I said and tried to give her the ring.

"You do it." she smiled her naturally beautiful smile. She held out her hand and I slipped the ring onto her finger.

"So now, you're officially mine." I smiled and kissed her hand.

"I've always been yours." she smiled and kissed me.

She layed back next to me and wrapped her arm around mine. I did it. I asked her to marry me, and she said yes! I couldn't be happier. I love this woman with all my heart. I can't wait to marry her.

"Now, we're gonna be a family." she smiled at me and rubbed her stomach.

"I love you. I can't wait until we get to meet our little babies." I smiled and put my hand on her stomach. Thats when I felt a little kick and Jen and I both looked at eachother. She broke into a wide smile.

"What was that?" I asked nervously.

"They just kicked! They're celebrating."We both laughed and I put my ear on her stomach.

"Did you hear that guys? Mommy and Daddy are getting married!" I said smiling, while I heard Jen giggle.

"Come here." she said pulling me up towards her. "I love you." she said.

"I love you more." I said as i pecked her lips and we layed back down. We interlaced our fingers and I kissed Jen on her head. Jen fell asleep and I put my head on hers. I stayed awake for a little while longer then I felt my eyelids getting heavy. I feel asleep knowing I had Jen and our kids safe.

Then I let it sink in. We're getting married. We're having kids. Things have been moving fast, but thats okay. Because I'm doing it with the woman I love.

I couldn't be happier.
