Little Harry's eyes were wide.

He stood, slowly turning his head in every direction he possibly could, marveling at the very first school he would be going to.

"Now, Harry, remember— be good, and we will have chocolate when we get home, okay?"

He blinked through his newly prescribed glasses, still having a hard time adjusting how clear everything was. Harry gazed through Remus' eyes. He was crouched down, a worried expression deep in his heavy eyelids but smiling.

"Yes, Moony!" he chirped, issuing an air of importance and obedience. He was a big boy now, going to a big boy kindergarten, without Remus. Then it struck him that it would be the first time he was away from him with strangers.

"Hey, hey, big guy," Remus said softly, enveloping him in a warm hug as Harry became slightly tearful.

"You will pick me up at four o'clock?" Harry asked, sniffling and burying himself into Remus' ragged shirt, not wanting anyone to see him cry on the first day of school.

"Yes, Harry," Remus replied with a smile, his eyes crinkling.

"Promise?"

"Promise. Four o'clock, sharp."

"Okay," said Harry shakily and hastily wiped his eyes, only to bump his arm straight into his glasses. Remus chuckled and took them off for Harry, wiping away the little droplets of tears with his thumb. That made Harry feel better instantly.

"Alright, big guy," Remus said, slipping the glasses back on Harry's nose, "Do you want to walk, or do you want a piggyback to your classroom?"

"Walk," Harry said firmly. Even though he really loved Remus' piggybacks, he wanted to look cool and prove he can be on his own.

Remus nodded fondly and stood, holding Harry's hand as they walked through the halls of Marauders' Day Care and Nursery. Harry held on firmly, his other hand gripping tightly on his backpack strap. He can be on his own and still hold onto Remus' hand.

They went past some classrooms with screaming infants and wobbly toddlers, making Harry feel immensely superior and proud already. Finally, they got to classroom 5A.

With a gentle nudge, Remus propelled him forward smilingly, nodding toward a beaming teacher with huge glasses and very frizzy hair, who at the same time also looked at the brink of tears.

"Why, hello, hello!" she cried. Harry couldn't decide whether she liked her or was afraid of her. "I'm Ms. Trelawney, and who are you?"

Harry tried to swallow down his nerves. "Harry," he said, hoping his voice wasn't trembling as much as his sweaty hands were.

"Harry Potter," Remus supplied for him, and Ms. Trelawney ticked off something on her clipboard.

"Welcome, Harry, I am so happy to have you as my pupil! Come now, some of your classmates are already here!"

Harry looked uncertainly back at Remus, who gave him one of his little winks and made a small motion with his hand, urging him to go on with his teacher.

"Bye-bye, Moony!" he called out, as Ms. Trelawney's gentle arm guided him forward.

He was led to a spacious carpet area. The carpets were littered with colorful rugs, topped with an entire corner dedicated to stuffed animals.

Ms. Trelawney wanted to say something, but another boy and his mother came through the door, leaving Ms. Trelawney rushing fretfully to them and Harry alone with his fellow peers.

His fists closed tightly around the straps of his backpack, nerves filling his tiny little stomach. He wished Remus was still there with him, holding his hand.
