(Third Person- With Anna)
“Holy shit, L.T. you’re bleeding,” Max states before the back window gets shot out. “Son of a bitch they’re right behind us.” He sets the video camera on the dash facing Anna and he leans back sticking his assault rifle out the side window and lets off a short burst of gunfire. Charlie and Liam are shooting as well, as Jessie is trying to keep herself and the little boy tucked to the bottom of the truck bed. She is shielding his body with hers.
“Charlie, do you still have those grenades?” She shouts behind her as she is screeching around a corner.
“Yes ma’am.”
“I’m going to brake check these motherfuckers. Blow them to fucking pieces. Hold your asses,” She yells back to the group as she slams her foot as hard as she can on the brakes. As soon as Charlie throws it, she’s back on the gas. She can hear the explosion, and when she looks into the rearview mirror, she sees two of the three vehicles following them have been hit.
“Max this is gonna be a weird question, can I have your shirt?” Without question he strips his shirt off and makes the move to hand it to her. “Ok seriously? I’m going 70 mph, can you lean over here and try to tie it around my side, or pack it in there or something, I’m losing too much blood.”
Max lays in her lap, under her arms, and lifts her shirt, “Nice bra,” he tries to joke with her. She reaches down and slaps him lightly in the head with a “be serious”. She can still hear gunfire behind her. She sees a turn up ahead and decides to take it at the last minute, as she is flying around the corner, Max’s head is forced into the door. He is done messing with her wound and sits back up.
“Where the fuck are we? I don’t recognize any of this,” she asks him.
“I see a river between those trees, other than that no idea,” he says as he starts to search the truck for clues. As he is bent over the glove box, Anna hears 5 more rounds of gunfire and feels a painful pinch near the top right of her head.
“Fuck, did I seriously just get shot in the side of the damn head? Max!” she shouts. “Charlie, do you have another of those things?” He yells to her that he does so she slams on the brakes again and again, he throws it, this time the grenade lands in the cab of the vehicle behind them, since the windshield has long been shot out. Finally, they have no one following them, but Anna doesn’t slow down any.
“I think it just grazed your head, I don’t see your brain,” Max jokes with her.
Anna’s been driving for nearly 10 more minutes, trying to get to somewhere they recognize, as they are coming to a point that the river sits basically off the road, “I’m starting to feel like shit,” she tells Max. No sooner did she say the words, she blacks out. Her head falling forward on the steering wheel. The truck veers to the right hard.
Max barely gets a chance to warn the rest of the group before the truck drives into the water at 80 miles per hour. Charlie grabs her out of the cab and swims with her back to shore. They’ve ended up nearly in the middle of the small river. Max is swimming back holding the camera above the water. Jessie is carrying the little boy and Liam is trying to help her.
Charlie lays Anna on the grassy bank and checks to make sure everyone else is ok. Jessie has broken one arm and dislocated her opposite shoulder, but everyone else is for the most part ok. Max looks into the camera, “I hope you have our location,” he says as he disconnects the phone from the camera, he looks at the camera, “Oh, it’s still connected, never mind.” He hands the camera over to Liam, who then focuses it on Anna.
Charlie is sitting on his knees examining Anna’s wounds. “Come on L.T. you need to wake up,” he says as he checks her pulse. “Max can you get anyone on that damn phone? She barely has a pulse.”
“I’m trying, I’m trying.”
Charlie lifts her shirt up and unpacks Max’s shirt from her side, as soon as the shirt is lifted, blood comes pouring out of it. “Oh my god, Anna, how did you still walk with this?” The gash is 5 inches long and quite deep. He repacks the wound and looks at Jessie, “What do you need?”
“Nothing, just make sure she makes it,” she smiles sadly.
“Max, anything?”
“I’ve got Ranger on the phone. He says they got our coordinates and a helicopter is 15 minutes out and they can still see everything that’s going on,” he puts the phone back to his ear.
Charlie looks back at Anna, not knowing what to do to help her. Before he knows it, every muscle in her body starts to contract and her chest is lifting slightly off the ground, “She’s seizing, Jessie! I need you. Tell me what to do.”
Almost as soon as it starts, her body releases and she lays motionless, “shit, she quit breathing.” He tilts her head back to make sure her airway is open, when that doesn’t work he starts doing chest compressions as Jessie leans down and blows air in her mouth.
“Come on Anna, stay with us. I’m not letting you go that easy.” He’s pushing down so hard her chest jumps off the ground a few times.
“Ranger says they should be here in 5,” he can hear Max behind him. After a few minutes, Jessie sits back and watches Charlie with tears streaming down her face.
“Liam switch me, I can hear the helicopter.” Liam moves to sit by Anna, setting the camera next to her face, and takes over chest compressions for Charlie. Within minutes the helicopter has landed, loaded everyone up and is back in the air.
