Chapter 3: The rest of the day

                                    *Slim's POV*

I looked over my shoulder, to see the girls sitting on different branches of their tree. I shook my head and turned my head to Candy who was looking at me. The triplets and Lennie came and sit in front of me and Candy. I smile lightly and ask, "How you likin' the ranch?" George just shrugs and said "Not too bad, but I have a couple of questions we're gonna ask" "Alright shoot" Candy nodded to show he was listening. "First off, how good are the girls with working in the fields?" Oliver asking. "Oh, so good that it made some fellas either piss off because the girls are strong or jealous" I smiled at the thought. The triplets nodded meanwhile Lennie was more interested in the beef stew than the conversation. "Second question why are the girls aren't gonna eat, if you don't mind we're asking?" Noah questions. I look at Candy and Candy looks at me. I sighed, "Three years ago something horrible happened" "What happened?" Lennie asked. I look at 'im. "I don't think it's our business to tell you but, we're gonna tell you this" I tried to explain, "After what had happened the girls have some days they'll eat but some days they don't". "I and Slim have always been worried ever since they start doing that," Candy said solemnly. The triplets and Lennie looked kinda worried, it makes me feel glad that they understand how Candy and I had been feeling.

                     Meanwhile the girls
                                  *Katty's POV*

The girls and I are sitting in our tree/spot. Ari is sitting on the top branch, Coral is sitting on the middle branch and I'm sitting on the low branch. " So, what do you think of the new guys' girls?" Coral ask. "Lennie is a sweetheart" I commented smiling. "Yes, he is!" "Such a nice man". "Sooooo, the triplets" Ari's face turned pink as she mentions the triplets. Coral face became Ari's face and my cheeks became hot. "I think they'll be perfect workers," said Coral. I nodded and looked to see the guys looking at us. I waved and smiled. "So is there anything we need to get while in town tomorrow?" I question. Every two weeks the workers go into town to grab something they need or want. "We need some new books" Ari reply. "We also need some boots" Coral butted in. I made a mental note of that. "GIRLS IT'S TIME TO HEAD BACK INTO THE FIELDS!" We heard Slim yell. We got down from the tree and head towards the wagons. We got in the wagon with the triplets and Lennie. Coral sats in the middle, I sat on the left, and Ari sat on the right. We were having a conversation with Gabriel then the girls and I heard some snickers, we looked over and saw Zachary. Zachary was one of the men who didn't like women doing a man's job. Earlier today before the girls and I went to the men's bunkhouse, Zachary came up to us while we were sitting in our tree and told us to wash his clothes so he can have something to wear later on. And well let's just say Ari 'mixed up with the color red and white. Ari busted out laughing with me and Coral follow behind her. Then the rest of the men started to laugh with us. Zachary turned red as an apple and tried to hide behind his hat. I stopped laughing but still grinned like a little child who got a new pet, I then fist-bumped Ari.

                                *One hour later*
                               *No one's POV*

When I say everyone is impressed with each other, I meant. The workers are impressed with Lennie's strong strength, and how fast the triplets can put the hay into the machines, and the triplets and Lennie are impressed with how hard workers the girls are. It was towards the end of the day, which meant it was almost time for the girls to leave early so they can feed the animals. "Hey ladies can I ask you something?" Ari looks solemnly. "What's wrong?" "Are you alright?". Ari just sighed and then look at the rest of their little woman's group. "I'm getting worried" Ari looks down then continues, "Carlson keeps complaining about how Shard stank, and how old he is". Katty and Coral stop what at their doing and look at their worrying friend. "Carlson doesn't understand how much important Shard is to my grandad and me" Ari sounds tearing up. The other girls knew how she has felt, they knew how special Shard is to the Webbers. They all knew someday Carlson is going to kill the Webbers by convincing the elder that he needs to put his dog down. Then Coral has a brilliant idea. "Hey Ari, I got an idea," Coral said smirking. The other two girls looked at their leader. "What if we can ask your grandad if we can have Shard live with us in our bunkhouse" theorized Coral. The two girls looked at each other and began to have the same smirk as their leader. "GIRLS ITS TIME FOR YOU TO LEAVE AND FED THE ANIMALS!" Shouted Slim as he stood with the triplets on his side. "OKAY!" "THANKS SLIM!" "ALRIGHT SLIM!" The girls stopped at what they are doing and head towards the wagon. "So tonight after the men are cleaned up, we'll ask grandad, ok?" Ari planned. The other girls agreed as they headed back to the ranch.

                             *Three hours later*
                            * Still no one's POV*

It was nighttime, which means every worker is in their bunkhouse either playing cards or sleeping. Now in bunkhouse number nineteen Slim is playing cards with the triplets and Carlson while Lennie is sitting at his bunk watching the card game. When Candy walked into the bunkhouse with his old dog Carlson just shook his head as if he couldn't take it anymore. "Hey Candy, when are you gonna shoot that damn dog?" Carlson asked bluntly. Then all of the sudden the time itself seems to stop. Candy looked shocked at the suggestion. "No- no- I can't do that w-w-why I had him as a pup" Candy stammering. Carlson stood up and walked over to Candy's bunk. " Look if you want, I can shoot it for you" "B-b-but I-I" before Candy spoke the door to the bunkhouse opened. There stood the 'girls of the ranch'. "Hey grandad, I was wondering something and I want to ask your permission?" Ari asks innocently. "What is it, Lion?" Candy ushers her to go on and ask him something. "Well, since Shard is getting old and stinking, etc" Ari then continues, " and I and the girls are wondering if Shard can stay in at our bunkhouse, so that way your 'roommates' can breath". "Well..." Candy said thoughtfully, but then smiled. "Alright as long I can see him during the day" Candy agreed because he prefers anything else that doesn't have to be killing his pet. The girls smiled. "Of course grandad, c'mon Shard" Ari calls her family's precious pet. Shard turned and began to walk with the girls in the crystal clear night.

•That is chapter three ladies, gents, they, and it. Okay here are some things I want to clear up. 1. I can't think of western words because that is how they talked in the book mice and men. 2. There is gonna be the n-word because mice and men are set in the 1930s, and I wanted to keep it but don't worry I will be censored the n-word because I'm not a racist bitch.
