TW: harassment/ exploitative behavior? (I don't really know how to describe it but you'll see)

Y/N wiped invisible dust off of her pants. "So you're gonna join right?" Mikey asked, clearly excited.

"Huh?!" slightly surprised at his sudden change in mood. "Well yeah, but why are you so excited about me joining?" Y/N asked, confused since she never thought she was anything special.

"Well, it's not every day that a random girl comes in the middle of a lesson and then tries to kick our practice dummy," Mikey said in a teasing tone. He chuckled, clearly amused with the girl's strange antics.

'Wow, did I really look like that to everyone? That's kinda embarrassing...' Y/N cringed.

Mikey continued, "It gets kinda boring here so having someone as embarrassing as you would be entertaining."

Y/N stared at Mikey owl-eyed. 'How did he know what I was thinking? Is Mikey a psychic?!'

"Plus, I just think that it'd be fun to have you join my gramps' dojo. So I'll just get the paperwork out for you."

As he was turning to leave Y/N called out, "Wait won't your grandpa do that?" In a confused voice.

Mikey turned back and proudly shouted, "Well yeah but since I work here too, I'll be the one helping you out today."

"This is the Sano Family Dojo after all." He talked back like a know-it-all.

When Mikey got back Y/N read over all the information and that's when she realized one crucial detail. 'My parents or my mom for that matter made it clear that they aren't going to spend any money on any more sports.'

'This means I won't be able to join the dojo...' Y/N's eyes fell to the ground.

"Hey, are you done?" Mikey came back with a cheeky smile spread across his face as he ignored someone yelling at him to keep cleaning.

"Um, no actually I don't think I can join," Y/N mumbled her voice barely audible.

His expression fell, "But you said that you would."

"I forgot my parents don't have money for me to do martial arts, I'm sorry Mikey." She spoke

"Wait, don't go. Maybe I can convince Gramps to let you join! He can be kinda stubborn but I'm sure he'd let you join."

"No, you don't have to do that for me I-"

A voice behind her interrupted, "Mikey you Idiot. You can't convince gramps to do that, you have to be clever to be able to convince him to do anything like that." It was a pretty girl with blonde hair. She stood pointing at Mikey.

"I am clever, I can convince him," Mikey muttered, arms crossed and puffed out cheeks.

"Mikey, you'd have better luck at convincing Shinichiro to give you his bike," Then the pretty blonde gestures at Y/N. "Ya know if you really want to join gramps' dojo maybe I could strike a deal with him."

"You don't have to do that. I don't want to cause any of you trouble."

"No, it's completely fine. I want to help you," She walked off in search of her grandfather.

"Just so you know I could have helped too umm... Wait, what was your name?" Mikey turned to Y/N dazed. He hadn't even asked for her name the whole time they had spoken to each other.

Y/N looked at Mikey deadpanned, "Really? You just now thought to ask me for my name?" They stared at each other for a moment straight-faced.

"My name is Y/N."

"Well, it's nice to meet you Y/N!" He smiled ignoring Y/N's stoic expression. Feeling a tap on her shoulder Y/N turned.

"Hey Y/N," Noticing the blonde had heard Y/N mention her name.

"I was able to strike a deal with my gramps. He said that he'd let you officially join the dojo if you manage to pay half of the required fee. But he'd let you train here on one condition." She held her finger up.

"What is it?" Y/N asked.

"That you can't train inside of the dojo."

"Wait, how am I gonna do that?" Y/N asked.

"Well, we have a glass door here behind these curtains. And you can watch and practice outside while you raise the money for the fee. Plus I'll help you with the money. I have some saved up so you can join faster." Y/N looked at the blonde stunned.

'Wow I haven't even known her for a day, and she's offering to help me pay for dojo lessons?'

"Are you sure? You really don't have to go that far. I'll find a way to raise the money myself. You've already done so much to help me."

"Yes, I'm sure you seem like you're really eager to join. But since I'm helping you out I have a favor for you."

"Of course, I'll do anything since you're really helping me out."

"I want you to be my friend." With that Y/N ended up agreeing to the blonde girl, who she came to know as Emma. They had talked for a while after that, but the time for Y/N to leave had quickly come.

After saying her goodbyes to everyone at the dojo Y/N quickly made her way back to her gymnastics studio. On her way there she began thinking about how she'd raise enough money to join The Sano's dojo. Even with the massive discount, Emma had managed to get for her it was still a lot of money that she didn't have.

Eventually, she made it back and of course, her parents still hadn't arrived. There was no one there and the sky had darkened. So Y/N decided to sit down, for a while she allowed her mind to travel until she heard a door creak open.

She looked up at where the noise came from, it was one of her gymnastics coaches. He looked down at her sitting on the ground. "Hey kid, why weren't you at practice today?"

Y/N quickly stood up in a panic thinking of what to say, "Um, I got lost. I'm sorry."

"Yeah right, I'm not a dumb kid. I know you ditched practice." He plainly stated. The man pulled out a cigarette and lit it. He paused, taking a puff, and then proceeded to blow it in Y/N's face.

Scrunching up her face at the smoke, she covered her nose and mouth with her hand. Then he spoke up, "I won't tell your parents, but you owe me."

And with that, he left. "Huh? Owe him what?" Y/N scoffed, but deep down her stomach twisted. Hoping he hadn't meant anything by that comment.

'Yeah right old man, as if I'll ever owe you a thing'

Her parents had finally come to pick her up with some news.

"Starting tomorrow we won't be able to drive you to gymnastics. So you're going to half to catch the train to get here and then home." Her mother said.

"But if I do I'll be late."

"Well, you're just gonna have to figure that out."

'Well, this is just great. '
