Into the Fight

Then they moved up the hall passing the broken droids and going right at the intersection. They ran by many rooms that were unoccupied, at least according to their motion trackers. Finally coming to the end of a hallway, they walked into the huge hangar that housed the guns. They were firing making the room vibrate violently. A stack of many boxes was near them, Tac could also see a command room with a window overlooking the hanger.

“Sniper!” Rhett yelled as a bolt sliced through his heart. The platoons dove for cover behind the boxes, but not before several clones fell to the snipers aim. Two super battle droids came through doors on the other side of the hanger. It wasn’t until now that Tac realized more than a 100 battle droids were in the hanger all converging on their position.

“Cutter, we can move the boxes around us for cover on all sides.” Cameron said

“I like it, you heard him troops move the boxes!” Cutter said throwing an ECD at a group of droids.

Tac and Jackrabbit moved a few boxes before being suppressed by the sniper, and now with the boxes in formation it was easier to fight. The droids had surrounded them and were coming in on all sides. Tac watched as as his clone brothers fell left and right from the blaster fire that poured onto them. He heard a clone yell, “Time to rearrange some machinery!” before firing a rocket into a group droids blowing them to bits. The clone Arc was a blur of motion, he stood atop the boxes raining hell on the droids, taking bolts and damage to his armor.  Cameron took a shot to his forearm, but continued firing. They were outnumbered 2 to 1 and the sniper was taking more clones every minute.

Cutter dropped his rifle and picked up a launcher and aiming at the sniper that stood along the wall, fired and leapt down to cover. When he looked over the box he saw smoke rising with no sniper and then jumped right back atop the boxes. With the sniper gone Tac and Jackrabbit could bring their heads up from cover and help with the fight. Tac fired, killing 4 droids with headshots, and taking a bolt to the shoulder from one the super battle droids. The super battle droids were now blowing a hole in the boxes with their wrist rockets.

“My squad, to me!” Cutter said and with that he jumped down to the other side of the boxes followed by Cameron. Tac and Jackrabbit jumped over moving into a wedge formation. The Arc was at the head, blasting droids down like leaves in Autumn. Cameron held his rifle in one arm while his other arm hung limp by his side. Tac armed and threw an ECD into a cluster of droids. They moved fast towards the super battle droids, and taking attention from the main group still entrenched in the boxes, a few clones had jumped out too. Tac saw a rocket fly overhead and saw Jackrabbit’s body fly forward from the impact behind. He kept running, sorry for the loss of his brother. The super battle droids had targeted them now firing shot after shot. Still they charged forward at them sustaining multiple wounds. Cameron took a rocket to the legs and fell, Tac stopped short to kneel down then yelled, “MEDIC, WE NEED A MEDIC OVER HERE!” What Tac saw next made him think twice about who he was as a clone. Cutter had reached the droids. He tore completely through the first droid’s metallic shell with his rifle. Then the Arc turned to the other, but not before half of his helmet was blown off revealing a face of pure anguish and hatred. Cutter threw aside his rifle, grabbed the droid and slammed it to the ground, making its mechanics shatter inside it, the droid lifted it’s arm at Cutter to shoot him. He instead saw Cutter pull out his DC-15 pistol and shoot it in the head.

With the new refounded morale boost made by Cutter and his squad, a lot of troopers had stepped out of the boxes mowing down droids. Tac stood up shooting a retreating droid and watched the rest of droids run away. It didn’t matter whether or not they destroyed those droids, the place was going to blow up within the hour after they placed the charges.

“Bencher, how many did we lose?” Cutter asked the Sergeant.

Standing at attention, Bencher replied, “Not good, sir, we lost 17 troopers and not mentioning the wounded.”

“I see, get that bombsquad on the guns now, and then we’ll make a hasty retreat, understand?” he ordered

“Understood, sir!” Bencher said turning on heel towards the orange clones.

“Alto, do you read me?” Cutter said into his wrist’s communication mic.

“Yeah, just finished mopping us some droids. We got some important files and are searching the floor for more,” Alto replied.

“Negative, get back to the tunnels ASAP, we are leaving.” said the Arc.

“Yes, Sir!” the mic went a bit static before going dead.
