Declan sat in front of the desk in his room. His feet were inclined to rest on top of it, and he idly laid back with the binoculars gripped in his hands. A growing smile crept onto his face.
The Girl next door had just gotten home - from where, he didn't know - and she opened the door to her room, flipping the light on. He'd been doing this ever since she moved in a few weeks ago.
His hobby consisted of staring at her window through his binoculars, watching as she undressed or did her makeup or whatever else sparked his interest.
Tonight she showed up angrily. The slam from her door was so hard that he could almost hear it. She scanned her room frantically, rummaging through her belongings.
His face contorted in confusion as she plopped down on the floor, messing with some unknown object.
The look of pure agitation never left her pretty face. If steam could have blown out of her ears, it would have at that moment.
A grin formed on her small pink lips and Declan could just barely make out the craziness in her eyes as she lifted the object off of the floor.
In her hand was a .9 millimeter - one she had obviously just loaded. She stared at the metal that she held in her hand for what seemed like an eternity.
Is she going to use that? Declan wondered fearfully. As if answering his question, she nodded and stood up from the purple carpeted floor.
The Girl exited her room again, closing the door with much less force this time. He had thought that that was the end of it, all he could see.
But when he spotted the middle-aged woman through the kitchen window downstairs, he put the binoculars back up to his face.
The woman stood with a dishrag hanging on one of her shoulders, silently washing dishes at the sink.
The orange glow in the kitchen was dim, but Declan spotted the shadow approaching behind the woman.
Declan had no warning for what happened next. He heard a bang! and the window was splattered with thick, red blood.
His heart seemed to stop as the woman crumpled to the floor, revealing the Girl who stood amused and covered in blood.
A light came on in one of the bedrooms downstairs, and Declan followed it with his binoculars.
A middle-aged man stood by the door, looking quite groggily and out of it. He rubbed his head as if he had a migraine, and silent words left his mouth.
Before he could open the door himself, it slammed into the wall. The girl stood in the doorway. With squinted eyes and furrowed eyebrows, the man spoke again.
The Girl only nodded, the maniacal grin never leaving her face. The man reached his arms out, either for the gun or the Girl.
But he wasn't quick enough. Another bang! - and more blood splattered the white bedroom walls. The Girl wiped the spray of blood from her face, stomping out of the room.
Another light came on upstairs, but Declan could only see into the window partially, it's dark drapes covering most of the view.
The room was right beside the Girl's bedroom, and it was painted pink with little pastel flowers taped to the walls.
Declan could see a tiny mess of brown hair pop up from the princess bed in the room, sweeping her surroundings for the source of the loud noise.
Another body approached the kid as she sat on the bed. The little girl reached a small hand out, as if to defend herself.
But as before, a bang! echoed from the house, and the little girl's soft brown hair became a mess of slimy red sludge.
He stared at the defenseless, lifeless body of the kid. How could someone do such a thing? The image horrified him, and he quickly averted his eyes away from the window.
Declan hadn't noticed the movement one room over until he lifted his eyes back to the binoculars. He was shocked to find the Girl who had caused all of the chaos staring back at him.
The psychotic smile returned to her face as she loaded another bullet into the gun.
