Lydia POV:
Lydia hated her timer and its stupid countdown. I mean, she had already met Jackson (the love of her life) so why was the dumb thing still counting down?
She would have taken it off ages ago if it weren't for her popularity, so she made her mom buy her a pink flap to cover it up.
Lydia hadn't looked at her timer in so long that she had almost forgotten what it looked like. The cover helped a lot; she could almost forget about the seconds ticking by until she met who she was supposedly meant for.
Jackson's watch was covered by a sleek silver flap that he never ever opened, he hadn't even mentioned it once to Lydia. But she understood, I mean he was just so committed to their relationship that he wanted to hide his too. And they were the most powerful couple at Beacon Hills High School. They never spoke about their timers, it was an unspoken rule to pretend that they were meant for each other.
But Lydia couldn't help to feel jealous of her best friend Allison who was currently freaking out about her own timer coming to a stop.
"Two minutes Lydia!" Allison screeched trying to keep her voice down in the busy hallway.
Her brown eyes were flicking nervously at each student that walked by as if any of them couldbe 'the one'. She pulled at the hem of her creamy colored skirt, which lydia was so envious of, and bit her bottom lip until the point when lydia thought it might start bleeding.
"Stop that!" Lydia said once she had shown Allison to her locker, which was conviniently right next to hers.
Allison kept glancing down the hallway, "Stop what?" A boy walked by the two girls and Allison jumped.
"That!" Lydia screeched, "You're acting like anybody in the whole school could be him. You're freaking me out!"
Allison still didn't let her eyes stop wadering. She pressed her back against her locker and searched for faces, " Anyone could be the one! I'm sorry but I am new at this school, I don't know a single person, besides you and Jackson. So, I can't cross anyone off my list of possible soulmates!"
"Allison," Lydia said grabbing her best friends shoulders forcing her to make eye contact,"There's no need to freak out! He's going to absolutely love you! I mean, what's not to love! You're beautiful, funny, caring, even a bit bad-ass," Allison snorted and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, "You're perfect Allison! And you two are going to love each other. These timers aren't wrong you know-"
"I know! But I'm just nervous-" She glanced down at her watch and gasped, her eyes growing wide, "20 seconds Lydia! I think I'm going to be sick!" And before Lydia could stop her, Allison was running down the hallway towards her car. She was almost at the double doors before slamming right into- who was that?
Beep, Beep, Beep
Their two timers could be heard all the way down the hallway, beating together. The school became silent and every head turned to look at the the two soulmates. The boy was cute, Lydia had to admit, he was tan with cropped dark hair and puppy dog eyes. He must have been strong or else Allison would have caused them both to go sprawling, maybe a lacrosse player?
Why hadn't Lydia seen him before?
The silence lasted a for approximately 12.2 seconds until both Allison and her soulmate broke into huge grins and hugged each other. The hall erupted in whoops and cheers and the students surged towards the two teens. Lydia sighed and smiled to herself as she gathered her books from her locker.
As Lydia walked towards her best friend and the newest member of the popular crowd, she tapped absent mindedly on her pink cover.
Allison bent over to pick up- what looked to be- her soulmates cracked phone, "oh my gosh! I'm
so sorry Scott!" So they had done introductions already, Lydia noted. Allison handed him his
phone.
"Its okay." Scott had the biggest smile on his face despite his now shattered android, "I needed to get a new one anyway."
Allison was about to respond before Lydia cut in, "Hi," The red head stood shoulder to shoulder with allison and smiled up at... Scott, "I'm Lydia."
"Oh I know who you are," The boy muttered laughing to himself.
"What?" Lydia cocked her head wanting to know why it seemed so funny to him.
"My best friend-" He shook his head, "Nevermind. I'm Scott. Scott McCall." Allison raised her hand over her mouth to hide her completely smitten smile.
"Hm," Lydia hummed, the name sounding familiar, "How come I've never seen you around?"
"Probably because you're so wrapped up around me to even notice him," Jackson appeared out of nowhere and slung his muscular arm casually around Lydia's small shoulders, "Also because
he is probably one of the least popular kids at this school." Scott blushed and looked down at
his shoes, hooking his thumbs around his backpack straps, "Where's loser number two?"
Lydia elbowed Jackson in the ribs and ducked out from under his arm, "Well not anymore. Scott, you should sit with us at lunch!"
Jackson opened his mouth to protest but Scott beat him to it, "I don't know. I can't just ditch
Stiles-"
Allisons smile faltered but she walked over to Scott and laced her fingers through his, Lydia
didn't fail to notice how perfectly their hands molded together, "You can bring him too! Come on
Scott!" Scott looked up from the floor and stared at Allison in awe, "Please?" She asked softly.
"Y-Yeah, um, sure! I'm sure Stiles will be fine with it." Scott stuttered, clearly frustrated at how easily he gave in.
"Oh no, I don't think so-" Jackson started.
"Great!" Lydia cut him off and patted Scott on the shoulder, then she turned to Allison, "We
should head to class-"
As if on cue, the bell rang and Allison nodded in agreement, "Right. I'll see you then?" She
looked up at Scott, and he nodded. Allison looked sad to have to leave her soulmate behind as she went to class, but she reached up and kissed him on the cheek.
Scotts puppy dog eyes almost jumped out of their sockets, "Bye Scott!" Allison laughed and let Lydia lead her down the hall and towards Chemistry.
Lydia looked over at her best friend who was practically glowing with happiness and smirked,
"told you."
