Tom and I rushed back through the hole in the wall, hand in hand. We came to a stop side by side with Blakeleigh, Caroline, Joey, and Ross. Standing in front of us was Hawk and a tall, thin boy who looked about our age. He had short, light brown hair and baby blue eyes. His nose was dotted with freckles. He was kind of cute. Hawk noticed me looking.
"This is my son, Jay." Hawk put his arm around Jay's shoulders. "I love him dearly, but," Hawk pulled out a gun and held it to Jay's head. "I am willing to make a sacrifice. Hand over the girls, or I pull the trigger." My mouth dropped. He wouldn't murder his own son...would he?
"Wait!" I yelled. I had just met this guy, but I felt a strange urge to protect him. "We will go."
"No!" Tom grabbed my wrist. Having been cut there before in the chamber, I immediately pulled away with a small yelp. Hawk laughed.
"See? You are no help. Now leave."
I noticed Jay cut his eyes to Hawk, then focused on me. He glanced to his fingers. I followed his gaze and saw he was holding three fingers. Then two. I understood. One finger. I launched myself at Hawk and Jay elbowed him in the nose. I started kicking his side. In all the chaos, Hawk managed to fire the gun. By Ross's strangled yelp I figured he was the victim.
"Is..he..okay?" I asked between breaths.
"Yeah, just the shin." Caroline said. She turned and kicked a guard in the soft spot. He ran away with a pained expression. Hawk laid in the floor, blood trickling from his mouth. I high-fived Jay.
"Not a bad fighter." I smirked at him.
Jay blushed. "Same to you." He looked down, hurt streaked across his face. "I never thought my own father..." he trailed off. I put my hand on his arm.
"Hey, it's okay." I gestured to our little group. "All of us are orphans. Abandoned by our parents. But now that we're together, we're strong. Would you like to join us?"
Jay beamed. "Yeah! Of course! I guess I can call myself an orphan now." He looked down to where Hawk was, but furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait, wasn't he just....right there?" He pointed and we all turned. Hawk was gone.
Suddenly a voice blared over an intercom. "I don't think you can call yourself an orphan yet, son."We darted for the hole in the wall, but it suddenly sealed up like magic. The door on the other side of the room slammed shut with a click. Locked.
"You think a simple fist fight can get rid of me? Hawk spoke again. "I don't think so. But for now, I'm tired, and you must be too. Let's take a little...nap." And with that the room filled with a green gas, and we all fell to the ground unconscious.A/N- sorry this sucks😬
