It had been weeks. Shinsou always came, always talked to him and looked him in his eyes.
He loved it, the undivided attention that made him feel like a real person. He'd invited the teen over his house a multitude of times. A few times Shinsou stayed overnight. He liked it then. The house wasn't empty. It wasn't just him.
He never explained properly about his parents, he didn't have to. The lavender teen understood, spoken words or not.
"Hey" Shinsou greeted him at the cafe. Katsuki smiled and returned the greeting.
"I'm moving up to class B" The teen announced and Katsuki felt a burst of pride.
"Hell yes!" When Shinsou shyly blushed, Katsuki grabbed his hand and pulled the boy down into a hug. "You're gonna be top of the class in no time"
His words did nothing for the blush ever present on the teen's face and Katsuki loved it. It was so easy to engage and wrap himself in the other's presence and forget about his parents.
Katsuki mouthed a sentence he'd never say out loud as he held onto Shinsou. 'I like you'
They ended up going back to Katsuki's empty house and hanging out, watching shows and eating.
Shinsou somehow talked him into making cookies. He was halfway done decorating one of them when he heard the telltale sign of a photo being taken. Shinsou stood there with a grin, a polaroid camera in his hands. Katsuki had gotten it a while back to try and make his room less depressing. Shinsou had found it and started taking photos of them doing various things to help.
Katsuki held up a pinky to Shinsou and the other laughed, moving to interlace his own.
"Help me decorate"
"Yes sir!" The teen mock saluted, setting the camera down, picture next to it, on the table. Shinsou moved so that he was on the other side of the kitchen island where Katsuki had set up. Two racks of warm cookies sat on one side, a tray serving as the finished rack.
It was so nice to let go of the clouding thoughts of his parents and focus on Shinsou. So as they decorated, they talked. Words being tossed between them as they swapped frostings and sprinkles. Purple, yellow, green, and red. Those were the colours Katsuki had bought, there was mostly yellow and green left from last time, but they made it work.
"We should make cupcakes sometime. Can you do the thing when there's stuff inside?"
"The filling? Yeah. I can do everything"
"You couldn't ride a bike until I taught you" Shinsou teased.
Katsuki's cheeks warmed. "I wasn't taught and I didn't want to try" He defended with a glare that had the other tilting back with laughter. It was contagious, the sound and sight making Katsuki smile.
The cookies sat in a dish on the clean counter under a cover of aluminum foil as they returned to Katsuki's bedroom. They had made the frostings into swirls, flowers, and hearts. There were a few cat-looking things but they weren't really up to standard, so they were in the small plate Katsuki carried for them to eat.
Shinsou had helped him with filling the bedroom walls. Photos of them in various places hung from lit up strings all along one of his wall. There were quite a few at the cat cafe that were of the lavender teen himself. One row was dedicated to their selfies together. Many of them were of Katsuki himself; photos taken when he wasn't looking. Shinsou grabbed a clip and put up the newest picture.
His favorite photo, by far, was one of the selfies they'd taken. It was by the coast. The sun was just about to fully slip under the horizon, the sky was beautiful. They were both smiling widely at the camera, sweatshirts on. Upon first glance, it looked like a normal photo of them. But it wasn't just some random photo. Katsuki was wearing Shinsou's hoodie, it was black with a cat stitched in pink thread.
"Hey, these are pretty good" He heard the teen mumble through the cookies —he was sure there were multiple— tucked in his cheeks. Like a chipmunk.
"Of course they are, I made them" Katsuki returned easily. Everything was easy with Shinsou. He didn't have to do anything big to get his attention, he didn't have to constantly challenge the teen to talk to him. They simply existed; the dynamic coming naturally.
When the cookies were done, Katsuki allowed the lavender teen to join him on the bed. "Are you staying tonight?"
"Yeah, I brought my new uniform. I wanted you to see"
"You're gonna rock it. Pick out a show, I wanna take a shower"
"I'll change and pick one. You good with action tonight?"
Katsuki nodded as he collected his clothes. "Sounds good"
They always slept in the same bed. It only made sense to, the bed was more than enough for the two, and they found that it helped them both. Shinsou had pretty bad insomnia and Katsuki couldn't stand the cold silence of the house.
But together? Katsuki could hear the other breathing and occasionally shifting; he could feel the other's warmth. It made him feel so much better, so much safer in the otherwise empty house. Shinsou had admitted one time that sleeping next to Katsuki helped him sleep an extra hour or two.
It was a mutually beneficial relationship, so they never even considered anything else. Katsuki couldn't remember how the whole thing started, really, but it was their thing now.
Morning came before he even registered falling asleep. They walked to the school together, each having a small container of cookies in their lunch.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, not bothering to slow his pace next to Hitoshi.
"It's too damn early for all this" He muttered as they neared the already crowded courtyard of the school. He was a morning person, but not for going to a school full of annoying extras. Shinsou snorted next to him.
They made it to Shinsou's new classroom, it was right neat to Katsuki's own.
"You've got this. You worked hard to get here, so go in and show 'em who the number fucking two is"
The teen beside him gasped dramatically. "Number two? I feel so honored. First I'd like to thank–"
"Just go in and stop being a whiny bitch. I'll make cupcakes next weekend if you shut up and be a normal human"
"In that case..." Shinsou huffed, hesitantly reaching out for the door handle.
"You're better than them, you deserve this more that those fuckwads do. I'll see you at lunch or something"
"Yeah" The other grinned, opening the door and stepping in. Katsuki let his lips form a content smile as he walked to his own class.
It was so damn good to be in this kind of relationship. They were yin and yang, fitting together in ways that both of them needed, filling gaps that they both had struggled with. Katsuki loved it. Sometimes he could forget about his parents, just like they did to him.
"Woah is Bakugou smiling?"
