Tap...tap...tap...
I looked around excitedly at the crowd. Everyone was there. The nervous energy was unreal. The anxious hum of a thousand voices all talking at the same time, all saying something different...
It was a vibe that I had never felt before.
I looked over at Rico and grinned.
He took my hand and leaned in to whisper in my ear. "All for you, my love. All for you..." He kissed my neck and then pulled back a little to watch my face. When he saw that I had an immediate response to his lips against my skin, he leaned in and kissed my neck again.
I giggled and looked back at the giant sparkling tinney shoe that was just tapping away on the side of the stage. Its toe was keeping beat to the music blaring over the speakers.
Crazy.
What was it even doing there?
I looked over to the other side of the stage and got caught up in the gaze of the giant pair of sparkling sunglasses that seemed to be...watching us.
It gave me the creeps.
But I was intrigued by it.
I looked back at Rico again and kissed his lips. "Thank you, Rico."
He smiled and kissed me back. "Anything for you, my love."
Our seats were some of the best in the house.
Only the best from Rico.
I couldn't believe that he had taken us all the way to California just to see the band. I looked down our row, all the way to the end at Claire, who was grinning just as wide as I was.
Christian had his arm around her and leaned in to whisper something in her ear. By the way she looked up at him, I could almost bet that he was singing to her.
Remmey looked beside him, at them, and then down at Claire's pregnant belly. She was still just barely showing. Then he looked over at me, at the way that I was watching them, and back at the stage. Lola, who was sitting beside Remmey, and Ruby, who was sitting on the other side of Lola, were huddled together whispering excitedly and pointing out everything on the stage that didn't make any sense.
Rah was on the other side of Ruby and had his hand on her thigh. She was acting like she didn't notice, but when she flashed her sly grin his way, I knew that she did.
Chris was sitting on the other side of Rico, at the end of the row, and I was sitting in between Rico and Rah. I was surprised that Rah had chosen to sit in between Ruby and me, instead of in between Ruby and Lola, but now that I looked at Rico's end of the row, it looked like some or all of us were sitting where we were sitting on purpose.
All of a sudden, the lights started flashing off and on, and a loud voice boomed out saying something about the Mothership. The whole crowd got quiet. Just as quiet as everything got when the voice started talking, there was an eruption of noise that took over the whole place when it stopped talking, and everyone started screaming and pointing up. I could swear I felt the building shaking and was afraid at first that we were having an earthquake.
I looked over at Claire, thinking about the baby and how to get them out of there if we were.
She was still grinning, gripping Christian's arm excitedly, loving every minute of it.
