Chapter One

ZIAH'S POV

"Dude I swear, you throw one more damned box of macaroni at me and I will rip your head off of feed it to the pups!" I yelled.

I love macaroni... in my belly. Not being thrown at me by my best friend, Max.

"Dang bitch! Is it your time of month again?"

"Dou-"

I was interrupted by the kitchen intercom going off. "Ziah Marley, my office now, please."

Max was so lucky my dad called for me. I probably would've lost control again. I sighed. I have serious issues.

Max snickered as I walked away so I gave him the finger.

I thought about what Dad would want to talk to me about. Could it be about me losing control at work again?  This time I lost my job as a waitress. Mrs. Janks said she wouldn't tell Dad. Maybe she changed her mind? Maybe it was about me talking back to an adult. Or....my new highlights?

I smiled as thought about my dad's face last night when he saw my new highlights. I have dark chocolate brown hair and a few navy or hunter green streaks. To be honest I only have four half inch ones, on the left side of my head. It isn't that bad. I've done much worse.

I'm the alpha's only child. My mom kept having miscarriages after me so I'm the only one. My mom says she's glad that it's me who's her only child. Dad on the other hand isn't the same. I'm the problem child. Special. I know I'm really just an embarrassment to him. Being the alpha's daughter I'm supposed to be polite, caring, kind. I'm not though. I'm the complete opposite.

My mom says I am the equivalent of five kids to her. A pain, trouble, annoying, crazy, spoiled, intelligent, kind, loving, loyal, protective, strong, proud, and polite. I think she might be a tad bit delusional on some of those.

Every time my dad gets a call from some one in the pack about my bad behavior, I can see it in his eyes. I'm a disappointment and an embarrassment to him.

I don't like it this way, but the snobs who have their mates test me a lot, and I lose control. Like I did today. It wasn't that bad actually. I just lifted the girl up and slammed her into the wall, and yelled my opinion about her in her face.

When I got to my dad's office he was waiting for me. When I was ushered in I saw we had a guest. Internally sighing I put up my good girl wall.

"You wanted me father"

My dad smiled, "Zi, you can drop the act. Mitchell here has kids you age, and he's used to it."

I let out a sigh of relief, without even considering how it might look to this strange Mitchell dude. "Thank God!"

The men laughed and my dad rolled his eyes. He focused his attention back on me and grinned. It scared me. My dad never looks at me like this. "Ziah, princess, I have a offer for you."

I raised an eyebrow, "I'm listening."

He sighed. "Mitchell, here has brought it to my attention that I am nearing my twenty-five year mark as alpha to our pack. Meaning I should probably start considering a successor. So I have been. You know in our pack it is known our dominant have white fur, and our alpha's are pure white. Sometimes even betas are too." I nodded. "Well no one has pure white fur, except you. I don't want to stray from our great pack's tradition, so Ziah will you become my successor and the future alpha of our pack?"

I stood there shocked. This is not what I expected. Ever. It's what is always dreamed of, being an alpha. Though in my dream I was always the mate of the alpha, not the actual alpha.

I nodded. Then slowly let a grin spread across my face.

Mitchell stood and walked over to me and held out his hand. I shook it, still grinning. "Congrats, young lady. My son Darren is the alpha of the Clear Springs pack, so we'll be seeing a lot of each other."

I nodded, remembering my dad talking about The Clear Springs' pack's alpha stepping down, and his son filling in. "Okay, cool."

"Mark call if you need anything from me or Darren. We'll be glad to help train her. Whether it be duties or fighting. Understood?"

My dad smiled and winked. "Oh trust me she already knows how to fight. She's one of the best. Though she could use some help on controlling herself." I blushed in embarrassment.

Mitchell laughed. "Trust me, Mark, I know the feeling well. If I recall too, you were just the same. No one could stop you, but Marley!"

Marley was my mom. Hint the name Ziah Marley Lemine.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing about my dad. He never acted like that now. Maybe I'll change when I find my mate too. I smiled at the thought of finding my mate.

I had just turned eighteen last month, so it should be happening soon. Actually it should have happened last year, but I didn't really care yet last year. Even though I've never dated anyone, I can't wait for my mate. I imagined different types of a man we could be. I knew I was still going to be surprised though.

* * *

After Mitchell had left my dad grabbed my hand and ran me downstairs to tell my mom the news. She had been so happy she cried. I left shortly after that.

I sat on the roof, gazing at the stars, later that night thinking about my future. I had followed my dad around for years when I was younger, so I knew the patience and strength it took. I knew the countless hours of taking care of my pack would be good and bad. I couldn't wait though. Since my parents already knew that I knew most of the ropes, they decided to make my acceptance ceremony in a week. All the alpha's in America will be there. I mean no pressure or any thing right? Whatever though, I'll knock 'em dead.

I heard a noise in my room, and just as I was going to look in my window my dad stepped out.

"Dinner's ready kiddo."

I sighed. "Okay. Be there in a minute."

He looked at me with a look I have never seen in my life from him. It was a look that held compassion ans concern in it. He sat down across from me on the small platform we made when I was six. He looked over at me with with eyebrows furrowed and his face laced with concern. "You okay kiddo? What's wrong?"

I shrugged my shoulders, pulled my knees into my chest, and tucked my chin into them. "I'm just nervous. Daddy what if I screw up. What if I accidentally hurt someone or leave someone else uncared for?"

He smiled at me. "That's what has you all upset?" I nodded in reply. "Baby girl, you are the strongest person I know. You have your mom's heart and perseverance. You also have my strength, stubbornness, protectiveness, and possessiveness. Plus your extremely clever, I mean look at some of your stunts!"

We laughed at that.

"Sweetheart, those qualities will make you one of the best if not the best, alpha this pack has ever had. You'll do great things, dear. I promise."

I smiled up at him. My dad had been my hero for so long. Hearing him say that meant the world to me. This night will forever be locked into my memory.

"We best be getting to dinner soon. Other wise your mom will come a huntin'!"

I shook my head and laughed. I realized during my dad's talk, that he was right. I'll be a pretty damn good alpha. High Valleys pack, watch out!
