Chapter -
This was an area of the country you had barely seen before, the roads were flattened from many travellers and there were scarcely any trees. Grass yellowed by the sun was brittle and it crunched under your horse's hooves as you rode into Blackwater with Milton. Blackwater was like a smaller version of Saint Denis, the buildings were modernised but the architecture was not as stunning. Cobbled paths ran through the small town and street lamps lined the road. As you pulled up to the sheriff's office people began to gasp, Dutch's body on the back of Milton's horse had drawn a lot of attention from the townspeople, this was the face they saw not too long ago rob and decimate their famous riverboat.
"Go ahead Miss, I'll be right inside." Said Milton as he pulled Dutch off his horse, "People of Blackwater, Dutch's reign of terror is at a close." Townspeople broke into a series of applause and cheers as Milton took the body into the office, he dropped Dutch's corpse onto the floor in front of the sheriff's desk.
"Dutch Van Der Linde." He informed.
Shocked, the sheriff stood up, he was tall and had curly brown hair that cast a shadow over his face.
"How in the hell did you catch him?" He asked, his brown eyes wide with surprise.
"Miss (y/n) here." Milton pointed at you and your cheeks flushed.
"Well well Miss (y/n) you're going to be one rich young lady after that, America is truly grateful." The sheriff shook your hand and went over to a large iron door in the corner of the room, he twisted a dial in a variety of different ways before it opened up revealing large stacks of money and valuables.
"Here you are, ten thousand dollars." The sheriff handed you a large stack of bills which you turned over in your hands before swallowing your fear,
"Can I pay off a few bounties with this please sir? Milton?" You showed your hand to Milton who passed you your money and posters from Dutch's lockbox.
"Who's bounty?" Asked the sheriff.
"Arthur Morgan and John Marston." Confidently you held up each bounty poster.
"Arthur Morgan eh, that half of your money is gone already then my dear, as for Mr Marston, only a thousand will be necessary."
"I'll give you Seven thousand if you put it in a legal document that they are both stripped of all of their previous charges." You bargained with the sheriff and fluttered your sparkly (e/c) eyes.
"I need something long term Miss, Mr Marston's crimes are forgivable, but Mr Morgan is a different story." He said.
You mulled over your next proposal in your head before deciding, "Arthur's gonna go mad." You said to yourself as you geared up to sell your soul to the very people who would have not hesitated to kill you a few weeks ago.
"We will work for you, you know how much of a good shot Arthur is and John isn't so bad either, as for me well, I killed Dutch Van Der Linde so it's your call. Are we working for you and in return are you going to let us thrive in this evolving country?" Confidence came over you in waves, this was the best chance you were ever going to get to be able to live a normal life with Arthur, not to mention him working for the Pinkerton Detective agency would put his talents to use, only this time he would be on the right side of the law.
"I think that would suffice just fine miss (y/n), very fine indeed." The sheriff grinned and told Milton to get some employment papers. Milton returned with a proud look on his face,
"Here are the employment papers-" He paused so everyone could hear his idea, "And the deeds to Beecher's Hope ranch, you live here with Mr Morgan and Mr Marston, this way we can check up on you whenever it is required, if you all abide by the law there will be no trouble. But step one foot out of line and there will be dire consequences." He concluded.
