Whispers, voices, screaming,

Death.

I stare into the darkness. It was a nightmare but hopefully it doesn’t mean something. I roll to my side and see Cecile’s bed is empty. I frown. I glance at Raya but she seems to be sleeping. The door to the staircase is open.

Without thinking I run down the stairs. I don’t care about the sound I make.

‘’Cecile, no!’’ I scream. Everywhere doors open. Tired faces peek in the hallway.

I run, blind. I don’t know where I’m going so I trust my intuition.

After a while I reach Becky’s room. The door is open.

I peer in the room, but it’s empty.

No Becky.

No Cecile.

‘’What is…’’

My sentence is cut off by a scream. The scream came from Cecile. I rush down two stairs and keep running until I come to a stop at Sara’s door.

I enter the room and see Becky and Cecile. Becky stands with her back against the wall, while Cecile points a knife at her throat. Near them lies Sara, on her bed.

‘’P-please Cecile I-I’ts not wh…’’

‘’SHUT UP!’’

I stare in horror as I see my friend pointing a knife at someone else’s throat. Ancient memories come flooding back into my mind. Memories I had hoped to have forgotten by now.

I don’t have much time to think, I have to do something now. I rush over to Cecile and softly touch her shoulder.

‘’Cecile what is…’’

‘’She killed her.’’

My eyes widen at Cecile’s statement. Did Becky kill Sara?!

I rush over to Sara’s bed, she seems to be sleeping peacefully. I wave my hand in front of her mouth. No breath. I grab her wrist. No pulse. I put my hand on her chest.

No heartbeat.

For a second my vision is blurred with tears. I stumble backwards and fall to the ground. My hand is covering my mouth causing my sobs to sound muffled.

Sara is dead.

But Becky couldn’t have done it right? How could you possibly go that far to kill a little girl?

‘’N-no I di-didn’t kill h-her,’’ Becky chokes,  ‘’I wouldn’t…’’

‘’Like hell you wouldn’t, when you took her eye you already proved what you’re capable of,’’ Cecile hisses.

‘’Cecile wait, did you even listen to what she has to say?’’ I point out.

‘’No of course I didn’t, everything she says will be a lie anyway.’’

‘’P-please just l-let me explain.’’

Cecile sighs and her hand falls to her side. Her hand is still clenching the knife as Becky starts to explain what happened.

‘’I was walking around the house, I needed to clear my head from all the events that recently happened. I passed Sara’s door and decided to check on her. I saw her sleeping so I approached her when she suddenly started coughing. Her stitches came loose and her eye started to bleed again. I panicked and didn’t know what to do. Then Cecile came bursting in and the rest you saw for yourself.’’

I walk over to Sara again and slowly remove her hair from her eye. Her stitches indeed came loose and it looked worse than it ever did before.

But one thing catches my eye.

The stitches didn’t ‘just’ came loose.

Somebody cut them.
