The Final Step

Keigo didn't deserve to stay living after what he did. And sure, having his wings burned off would seem like a sufficient punishment, but the hero felt it wasn't enough.

What's done is done, I can't change the past.

So, with all the courage he could muster, he allowed himself to go limp and fall off the ledge that had kept him apart from death since he arrived there, waiting patiently until he had the guts to take that one final step.

But after he had done it, it seemed as easy as taking a walk in the park.

The man let put a pained laugh as he fell, his head throbbing and his veins pulsing from the sudden loss of altitude.

Even when he was about to die, he couldn't help making a stupid joke, and he even found that amusing. People had often criticized him for it - for being immature, and not as serious or responsible as a pro hero should be.

Now he could let that all go - the publics opinion of him - along with his worries and his cares, his hopes and his dreams, his passions and his experiences, and the joys and troubles of life.

Because what Keigo wanted nothing more, was to be free.

...

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill; my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find that it's all so amusing

And to think I did all that
And may I say - not in a shy way
“Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it, my way.”
