Gerald was in a struggle because of Sam’s request. Right after her conversation with Sarah, he told himself that he will not get involved with them in any way. He will distance himself so as not to create any complications… especially on his part.
Sam left for his trip without getting an answer from Gerald but he knew his friend wouldn’t let him down.
Sarah was sitting at one of the corners of Conti’s waiting for her client when she noticed a familiar face at the counter. She took out her phone and dialed his number.
Gerald fished out his phone from his pocket when he felt it vibrate and was surprised to see Sarah’s name flashing on the screen. “Yes Sa,” he answered.
“Alam mo favorite ko ang chicken pie sa Conti’s,” she replied.
“Ah talaga? Sige next time we see each other let’s eat there. Teka, clairvoyant ka ba? I’m here at Conti’s right now.”
“I know kasi I can see you from where I’m seating. I’m at your 4 o’ clock.”
He turned to that direction and smiled at her when their eyes met. He paid for his purchases first and then walked up to her table. “Here’s your chicken pie,” he said while placing a box of pie in front of her.
“Uy, I was just kidding! No, favorite ko talaga ‘yan but I didn’t ask for you to buy me.”
“Don’t worry about it. ‘Wag mo na tanggihan ‘yan kasi wala na akong pagbibigyan n’yan.”
“Sa mom or girlfriend mo.”
“I already have something for my mom here and I don’t have a girlfriend. So what are you doing here alone?”
“I’m waiting for a client actually.”
“Really? I better get going na at baka biglang dumating ‘yun.”
“No it’s okay. I’m really early plus she just informed me that she’s going to be late. So if you’re not in a hurry, I’d love to have company.”
“Ah ganun ba? Sige, I’ll stay here until your client arrives.”
“Thanks, that would be great!”
“So is this for another wedding?”
“No. I work for a real estate firm. So this is for that job?”
“Ah so extra job mo lang ang events coordination?”
“More like a hobby which pays us to do it. Shin, Yeng and Iya started the coordination business because we are suckers for that happy-ever stuff. We started lang with a friend’s wedding. For fun lang at first hanggang sa nagtuluy-tuloy na. Mostly weddings ang events pero may birthday at anniversary party na rin kaming na-handle.”
“So all of you have regular jobs din?”
“Si Shin and Iya are involved with their family’s businesses. Rich kids ang mga ‘yon so our business is really something they do out of love. They don’t actually need the extra money. Kami ni Yeng, we have regular jobs. Our families are middle class and the extra we make on every event helps us also. Pero mahal namin ‘yung ginagawa namin, bonus na lang ‘yung we get paid for doing it.”
“That’s great. So ano pa ang mga favorites mo?”
“Teka paano naman napunta sa favorites ko ang usapan?”
“Ha… ha… ha! Sablay ang segue ‘no?”
“Sobra!”
“Kasi di ba I told you that Sam asked for your number?”
