Gerald woke up that Tuesday morning without Sarah beside him. He looked around and saw pieces of clothing on a chair and some on the bed. “Babe?” he called out. Then he heard water running from inside the bathroom. He stood up and walked to the bathroom still calling out to her, “Babe? Mommy?”
“Babe?” she finally replied.
“Bakit ang aga mong magising? It’s only 6 o’clock. At bakit naliligo ka na? Mamaya pa naman tayo around 10 aalis eh.”
Water from the shower was turned off then she stepped with a towel wrapped around her. “I’m getting ready na.” She walked passed him to go to the bedroom. She stopped in front of their cabinet and leafed through her clothes that were hanging. “Babe, okay ba ‘to? Magugustuhan ba ito ng mommy mo?” she asked as she showed him a dress. “O kailangan ba medyo conservative o kahit casual jeans and shirt lang?” she rambled on.
He smiled as he understood what was going on. He held his wife by her waist and turned her around to face him. “Are you nervous about meeting my folks?”
She slowly nodded.
“Bakit?”
“S’yempre naman Babe. This is the first time I’m going to actually meet them. Oo, nakakausap ko sila sa phone and video chat dati pero iba na ‘to ngayon. Kaharap ko na sila, nandito na sila. Paano kung biglang ayaw pala nila ako? Ayaw na nila sa akin dahil sa mga nangyari. Tapos baka magalit pa sila sa ‘yo kasi binalikan mo ako. Tapos…”
Gerald stopped her ranting by kissing her on the lips. Which was supposed to be a simple kiss of assurance, turned to something more when she started kissing back. He licked her bottom lip which made her open her mouth and let him in. Her hands had already snaked around her neck, pulling him more to her, while his hands were slowly removing the towel. When it finally fell to floor, he carried her to the bed, took his clothes off and loved her, trying to wash away all her worries. After their morning tryst, they drifted back to sleep.
Her body suddenly shot up as she woke up with a start. She immediately grabbed the cellphone, which was on the night stand, and checked the time. “Babe 8:50 na,” she said loudly.
“Mmm… five minutes pa,” he murmured.
“Gumising ka na. Let’s start getting ready para hindi tayo ma-late sa pagsundo sa mommy at daddy mo.”
“Una ka na maligo.”
She stood up and hurriedly took another shower. When she was done, she went beside the bed to wake her husband up. “Babe, gising na. Sige na please para makapagbreakfast pa tayo.”
Gerald slowly sat up, rubbed his eyes and then stood up. He looked like he was sleepwalking as he headed towards the bathroom. He went downstairs looking for Sarah after he has finished prepping himself up. He found her in the kitchen giving last-minute instructions.
“Letty, please make sure na maayos at malinis ang lahat ha. Manang Ludy okay na po ba ang food natin mamaya? Gusto n’yo po mag-order tayo ng additional food para hindi bitin? Ken, sumama ka na lang sa amin sa pagsundo. Si Manong Jun na lang ang bahala magsundo kina Mommy,” he heard her continuously say.
“Babe, can you please stop harassing them and let them do their jobs. Everything will be fine,” Gerald interrupted.
“Letty, naayos na ba ‘yung kwarto kung saan matutulog yung mommy and daddy nila Ge?”
“Okay na po Ate Sarah,” Letty replied.
“Pwedeng bang calm down?” he told his wife. “And Ken, I think Sarah is right. Just come with us sa airport. Ipasundo na lang natin sila Mommy kay Manong Jun.”
