Both were running but then all of the sudden bakugo came out of nowhere and attacked first. Izuku was able to dodge it while protecting uraraka but the blast destroyed half of his mask

Uraraka:yeah! thanks. He came outta nowhere

Translation: nice dodging, deku.
Izuku: kacchan was sure to come straight at me. I knew it!
