Betty stepped into the boys' room, looking around as Jughead closed the door behind her. Jughead's side of the room was chaotic and disorderly, papers scattered across every surface and pictures of previous Stonewall Prep students from past generations, the current students' ancestors, dispersed within the mess. Bret's side was the complete opposite. His books were put away and his papers were stacked neatly on his shelves. His bed was made and his desk was clear apart from the laptop he worked on and some drafts he had printed for his writing assignment. Bret stepped away from his bedside as Betty entered. He made his way to Jughead's side and smirked as Betty's eyes met his own.
"Hello there." Bret said, reaching out his hand for her to shake it.
"Hi," Betty smiled as she shook his hand, as prompted, "I'm Betty." Bret nodded at her, pulling his hand back and putting it in his pocket.
"Bret Weston Wallis." Bret introduced himself.
"Oh yeah, Jughead told me about you." Betty admitted
"All good things, I assume."
"Of course." Betty turned back to Jughead and he nodded towards his bed, motioning for her to sit down as he took a seat by his desk.
"What are you still doing here Bret, don't you have a class to go to?" Jughead asked, glancing at Bret who still stood behind him.
"I just came by to tell you that we're having a party tonight, you two should come."
Jughead rolled his eyes. "No thanks, Bret."
"Jughead come on," Betty interjected, "it could be fun." She widened her eyes, suggestively, as Jughead caught on to what his girlfriend was telling him.
"Fine. We'll be there."
"Great. I'll send you the details later." Brett left the room and headed to his class, leaving Betty and Jughead to themselves."So why do you want to go to this party so bad?" Jughead asked as he went back to writing on his laptop.
"Trust me, I don't, but I'm thinking that this party would be a good opportunity for us to find out more about what's going on here. That's what you want, right?"
"It is. You're amazing, Betty." Jughead said, cupping her face in his hands.
"I know."Later on, the couple turned up at the party. It was a gathering on the grounds of stonewall prep. The dress code was casual but of course, at this school that word had a different meaning. The clothes they were wearing were not exactly formal, but they weren't jeans and hoodies either. Betty and Jughead navigated towards the food table, hoping to find some familiarity in the sandwiches or the punch bowl, but before they could reach it, they were approached by four people, one of which Betty recognized, Bret Weston Wallis.
"Hello, Forsyth, Ponytail." Brett exclaimed, grinning as he stepped towards them.
"It's Betty" She corrected as she folded her arms over her chest, examining the group of preppies that stood before her. There were two girls and another guy, not including Bret.
"Betty this is Donna, Joan, and Jonathan." Jughead explained, gesturing towards his classmates.
"Nice to meet you," Betty smiled. The three newcomers smiled back to her. The rest of the night went simply, Betty and Jughead tried their best to fit in with the prestigious students, which was easier than they expected. The hardest part was resisting the urge to roll their eyes when Bret droned on about how hard his life was, because everyone knows, straight, white, men - especially those as privileged as Bret - have it so hard. For a while, the couple almost forgot their investigation, their harmless facade made the next days events seem almost unbelievable .
