The next day, Betty and Veronica met up at the Pembrook after school. The two of them sat in Veronica's bedroom on her king size bed, painting each other's nails and gossiping, as girls tend to do (?). Veronica's bedroom did not look like it belonged in Riverdale. It was as though she took her room from New York and brought it with her when she moved. Considering her father was Hiram Lodge, it made sense and no one questioned it.
"Betty, can we please talk about those Preppies from Jughead's school." Veronica inquired, as she opened a bottle of pink nail polish.
"There's not much to say about them, apart from the fact that they are.. so weird." Betty responded, holding out her hand.
"Weird how?"
"Well, last night Donna came to warn us about Bret. She mentioned that he might try to do something to us because he is the son of a diplomat."
"Ugh, I am all too familiar with Diplobrats. They're so entitled." Veronica mentioned, applying a layer of nail polish to Betty's nail.
"Yeah, well, I know I should think that Donna was being nice, but something about her just doesn't feel right. I think the four of them are all planning something. I just don't know what."
"You know it sucks that they're all weird because honestly, my first thought when i saw Bret was 'is he single?' I mean of course, I love my dear Archiekins, but if Archie was out of the picture, I wouldn't mind giving Bret a shot." Veronica admitted. Betty laughed nervously, which made Veronica furrow her eyebrows. "Oh my god, Betty. Do you like Bret?"
"Ew what? No!" Betty exclaimed, pulling away her hands from Veronica.
"Oh come on, I'd recognize that laugh anywhere. It's the same one you had when you met Jughead. You have a crush on Bret!"
"Veronica, Bret is like my worst enemy. He is vile." Betty denied.
"That makes it even better! Oh my god, Bretty!" Veronica giggled at her revelation.
"V, I love Jughead, and I despise Bret."
"Fine, but see how you feel when you're walking down the aisle, on your way to become Mrs Weston Wallis." Veronica teased.
The topic quickly changed from Betty's crush when Veronica's parents got home. The girls finished each other's manicures and Betty went home, where she began investigating the Stonies, yet again.
