"AIN'T NO FUCKING WAY!"
Her curses overpowered the sound of Greentea Peng's song Dingaling. A light-skinned woman sat behind the counter; the beads from her waist length box braids clattering together. The shop bell -without permission- revealed my presence. She had looked up and at the sight of me swear words poured from her mouth. She took out the cherry red lollipop from her O-shaped mouth. Needless to say, she was shocked.

With a small wave, I interrupted her stupefaction, "Hey Dani."

"Don't 'hey Dani' me. It's been, what, three years." She exclaimed, raising her hands and standing up from the high stool she was sitting on.

I scratched the back of my neck, slightly regretting coming to this shop of all the hair shops along the high street.

"Well say something then, I haven't seen you since the protests. After that it's like you went AWOL." I looked down, intrigued by the slight crease of my air forces than the mention about her brother. My bestfriend.

At my silence she carried on, "We could've gone through this together. I mean I know everyone grieves differently but we were a family, your disappearence hurt us further. It's like you gave up." Quick as the bullet of a gun, my eyes went from my shoes to her.

"Never did I once give up. Don't say that. I would never. Not after everything." I gritted out, though my voice strained.

"I missed you, you know always asking me to fry you plaintain." I missed that. Dani lightened the mood whenever she could, since I could remember she despised negativity. The both of us laughed and reminisced on the memory.

"I was homeschooled for two years, it gave me the opportunity to think. Um but uh, now I go to private school I started this Tuesday." I picked up the squeeze tube of glittery lip gloss, admiring it as it was in my line of view.

"Ohh okay as long as your doing well mentally, phsyically, spiritually and academically." She narrowed her eyes at me and pointed her hot-pink, bejewelled, coffin-shaped acrylic at me.

"Always Dani, always." I put my hands in surrender, smiling.

"Now," she clasped both her hands together,"Why are you here? I highly doubt you woke up today and thought oh after three whole fucking years lemme' go pop up like Jack in the fuckin' Box and visit Daniella Jefferson." I smiled, amused by her exaggeration. One out of the few things I forgot about Dani.

"Yeah, I kinda need abit of um help."

Sensing my nervousness she arched her slit eyebrow, saying "With what?"
