Talking to you.

"15², umm that would be 225 so if I add that to this would I get my answer ?" She spoke with uncertainty and doubt in her mathematical skills

"15², umm that would be 225 so if I add that to this would I get my answer ?" She spoke with uncertainty and doubt in her mathematical skills.

"Yup and you would also get the answer for part c aswell." Replied her tutor, Christian.

"Okay thank you."

"I swear if this white paint gets on my school skirt again."

"I told you to bring spare clothes." Chris reminded Laina of her stubbornness and laziness.

"And I also told you to shush." Chris' chuckles reverbrated off the graffiti-coated brick walls; her attitude always seemed to amuse him.

[Thursday]

"Shit. Chris I'm stuck on this question, how do I solve this if the equation is in fraction form?" She explained pointing her ballpoint pen at the question they were discussing.

"So you multiply them both by the denominator and then..." Christian started to guide her through the equation step-by-step until they achieved the answer.

"oops."

The cheap nylon bristles that belonged to the flat brush Alaina currently had in her hold, purposefully touched Christian's cheek with the intention of petty revenge.

"That was done on purpose Laina." He groaned attempting to wipe away the crimson red paint stained on his pale cheekbone. To his avail he worsened it by smudging it across his cheek down to his jawline.

"Payback." She stated calmly shrugging her shoulders, back facing him.

"Really? Payback? I don't recall doing anything to you. Fucks sake, is it gone?" Chris knew exactly what he did but chose to act dumb and 'forget' him ever doing the exact same thing to her yesterday.

"You don't recall!? You put white paint on my face and I didn't even do anything," She argued, "and yeah it's- oh...my...gosh." Her laughter was heard audibly in the airy nightime atmosphere. It was a blend of hiccups, snorts, giggles and hearty full-blown laughing; it was her ugly laugh. Her real laugh.

[Friday]

Chris and Laina stood in a semi-crowded train, on their journey to the library for the imperative purpose of revision. There was clean air to breathe. Nobody was immobile. All was well.

They were playing a game of rock paper scissors simply out of boredom and not for the aim of decision making. So far they had played six rounds with no mishaps whatsoever. That so-called 'peace streak' was ruined when Chris picked scissors on Alaina's "Shoot.", and then quickly changed it to paper when he saw that she picked rock.

"Your really not slick you know." She told him.

"What did I do?" Chris said quickly. He folded his lips inward to stop from laughing.

"What did I do?" She mimicked him, exaggerating the tone of his voice. "It's okay because since you cheated that's a point to me so the score is 5-2."

Chris placed both of his arms on the handrail above them and leaned down to argue back, "Okay yeah fine I cheated but you don't get a point."

"Uh yeah I do." Alaina retorted matter-of-factly whilst tilting her head upwards to look him in his eyes.

"Uh no you don't."

"I do."

"You don't."

"You literally cheated Chris that's a point for me, just be accepting of the fact that you are quite frankly rubbish at rock paper scissors." She huffed crossing her arms.

"I literally know I cheated Laina but that doesn't nessecerily mean a point goes to you, it just means we start another round."

"Okay yeah fine we start another round but the score is now 5-2."

"No." Chris attempted to justify.

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes, you cheated for fucks-" Alaina could not finish her sentence as the train abruptly jolted. The sudden movement making her fall backwards. However, swiftly wrapping his hands around her waist and effectively pulling her forwards to his chest, Christian stopped her from falling.

"That's the universe telling you to listen to me because I'm right." He joked in her ear, hands still placed on his friend's waist. She lifted her head and hands that were rested on his chest and replied, "I strongly disagree, it's the universe telling you," She poked her index finger at his chest,"to shut the fuck up and listen to me." She pointed at herself.

Chris laughed at her argumentative nature, if anything finding it entertaining.

The sound of the train running over it's tracks droned on. The hooting of vehicles blared in the distance of the serene ride. Building lights were momentous and blinding; like they were the LED fireflies of the city in it's lively dark state.

Chris gazed out of the train window in his seat, eyelids hanging heavy, pleading to be shut. The hefty weight of sleep zoned in on him. Exhaustion and utter fatigue would not even begin to describe the state he was currently in.

His eyes finally gave up resisting his tire, and began to doze off, almost completely asleep until something nudged his shoulder. Chris lifted his head slightly agitated at the interruption.

Her head rested upon his shoulder as she slept. Her dark cleopatran lashes kissed her cheeks. As sleepy as he was, Chris still managed to crack a smile because the more his eyes were blessed with the girl beside him, the further he realised just how gorgeous she was. Curls toppled her head in the form of a slick puff, and her edges were prestinely swooped to perfection. Two coils were left out of the side of her head. The pleasant smell of Alaina's shea and cocoa butter hair cream wafted into Chris' nostrils and he couldn't help but to inhale deeply, pleased by the aroma.

His hooded eyes travelled from her cute button nose to her cupid's bow lips that seemed to pout in her sleep.

Chris fell asleep; his head resting atop Laina's.
