she was staring. she knew she shouldn't, that was a basic manner her mother had taught her when she was little. but with him, whoever he was, she couldn't help it. she was lost in his soul.
"rosemary, are you going to drink your tea?"
rosemary peeled her eyes off the quiet looking boy drinking coffee and stared down at her london fog. she no longer felt any heat rising from the cup and shook her head.
"sorry, mum. i guess i got a bit distracted."
"well, if you're not going to drink it, i guess i will."
rosemary's mother took the lukewarm tea from rosemary's side of the table and took small sips, treating the tea as if it were still hot.
rosemary turned her attention back to the boy and studied his features. he was wearing large glasses that rested at the middle of his nose. his black hair looked unkempt and wild, but suited him well.
suddenly, the boy looked up and stared straight at rosemary. rosemary turned away, her face burning with embarrassment. she was curious to see if the boy was still looking at her, so she slowly and discreetly turned her head around. the boy's eyes was now again on his book, scanning it carefully.
"i'm going to go pay, then we'll go, okay?" rosemary nodded at her mom, and watched and she walked to the counter and back.
"let's go, ro," rosemary's mum said.
rosemary got out of her chair and carefully pushed it back in, putting her jacket on.
rosemary and her mother started walking out. rosemary was keeping her eyes on the boy, who was still calmly reading his book.
rosemary hoped she would see this boy again.
