Past
"Hey, it's me again. Look I'm sorry. Seriously I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll probably keep on repeating it. Zoe ,I'll change I promise. I'll be that better person just for you. Please call me back ".
I again divert my attention from the road to make yet another phone call and bring the phone to my ear. It was just for a fraction of second that I had taken my eyes off the road, coincidentally it also happens to be the exact amount of time for an accident to take place.
I am pulled to safety by the force of my seat belts. I'm panting when I put my head on the steering wheel. The engine has stopped running while my foot is still on the brake. Up ahead everything is dark. There is a slight possibility that it is an animal but I remember the colour white appearing in my vision earlier. Turning the key in the ignition the headlights are turned back on. The road is clear till each and every point where the light reaches. Thinking that whatever it was may have gone back into the trees that surround both sides of the road I shift the gear and the car moves forward.
Sometime in the middle of the journey a voice comes from the back seat
" You almost killed me there", this was the second time that I had pulled an emergency brake, my hands reaches out to turn the over head light of the car on. Even with the support of light I couldn't bring myself to turn my face.
"You're shaking". By now I was sure the voice belonged to a woman.
" Turn around, I won't bite", she sarcastically whispers in my ear. I know she's close as I can feel her warm breath on my shoulder. I do as she says, the blondie sitting in the back seat of my car remains stoic for a couple of seconds before breaking into a fit of laughter leaving her gasping for air. She brings her left hand over to her cheek.
"People say I'm a great actor, do you agree?". This statement establishes her presence and my overwhelming heart burst out in anger
"Psychopath is what they should've used", I say and unlock the doors of my car.
" Get out".
With a little bit of force she was dragged out of the car to the side of the road. She's a convincing little shit ,I'll give her that. I had unknowingly let her be with me in the car ride cause I wasn't naive enough to pick a stranger up,
"There's an old gas station up ahead. You can find help there, I add if you're genuinely in need of any" .That being said I leave her there, in the middle of nowhere and resume my journey without looking back . I wont even remember her the next day I wake up. Thats how insignificant human life is to us. I wont care to think about if she found some help and safely made it home. Why would I when I dont even remember there was a woman in the picture to begin with.
" You have reached the capacity of this voicemail.", I throw my phone on the next seat and venture into the endless night.
