Hi, I'm Sam, the author of Dragon's Blood, which will be the first book in a trilogy. I like to choose my character names carefully to reflect their personality or their purpose in the story so I thought you might like to find out a bit more about some of the main characters names. More will follow as new characters are introduced:

Iyla Punkett (who has yet to realise that Punkett is not her actual surname!)

I chose Iyla's name before writing her character and was surprise to find that I could link her name to Elves, if a little tenuously! Elvia is an irish name meaning elfin, a derivative of which is Elvie, a derivative of which is Evie, a derivative of which is Evelyn, a derivative of which is Eilenn leading to Aileen leading to Aila leading to Ayla, leading to Iyla - ta da! ;) (Notice I used Elvia as a name for the little Elfin girl who shows Bill and Iyla to their rooms in Haven).

Bill Timmons - Bill's full name is William, something that is rarely mentioned.

The boy's name William \wi(l)-liam\ is pronounced WIL-yum. It is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "will helmet, protection". Bill acts as Iyla's protector many times throughout the story, often putting himself between her and danger. Short forms and variants came into being with a common basic meaning of "will", "determined", or "resolute" - also important parts of Bill's character. William has remained a royal name in the UK for nearly one thousand years and this royal link tohis name will become important in later books.

Sam - His real name is Samian but I made that up after finding the name Sam just because I wanted it to sound more otherworldly!

The boy's name Samuel is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "God heard". Also possibly as "requested of God", "God's heart" or "God's name". Biblical: the prophet and judge who anointed Saul and David as kings of Israel - Samian is a wise character with empathic powers so I felt this name would suit.

Chandak - the race of albinos:

The boy's name Chand \ch(a)-nd\ is of Hindi and Sanskrit origin, and it’s meaning is "moonlight". Chand has 2 variant forms: Chandak and Chandan and this is where my ide for the name of Sam's race came from - they will be referred to as 'children of the moon' later in the story, a reflection on their pale complexion.

 Alona - an elfin elder

The boy's and girl's name Alona \a-lo-na\ is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "oak tree". This is a reference to her strength and the fact that Elves have a spiritual connection with the trees in which they live.

 Iylas Dragon - Pandra

The girl's name Pandra \p(a)-nd-ra, pan-dra\ is of Celtic origin, and its meaning is "chief dragon". From the name Pandragon, a variant of Pendragon, as in Uther Pendragon.

Kendra – Iyla’s mother

Kendra\k(e)-nd-ra, ken-dra\ as a girl's name is pronounced KEN-drah. It is of Welsh origin, and the meaning of Kendra is "greatest champion". Also possibly from the Old English names Ceneric meaning "bold power", and Cyneric meaning "royal power". All references to Kendra’s strong character and importance to the plot.

I did not choose Kade's name based on it's meaning, I just wanted somethng that sounded dark and had the same first letter as Kendra - apologies to anyone called Kade, it's a lovely name! Similarly Iydra, Iyla's father, is a name I made up simply to closely resemble Iyla's.
