"Mina... please," I whispered, my vision becoming blurry from my tears, "you don't have to do this," my voice was wavering from both fear and heartbreak. This wasn't happening

"You killed her," she snarled.

"I killed who? You might have to be a little more specific because I have killed over three hun-,"

"Billie!" She shouted, cutting me off.

"B... Billie?" My heart dropped to my stomach and I was almost knocked off my feet- but I pulled through.

"They never told you did they?" She laughed still pointing the purple pistol at me, "on that mission, both of you were meant to kill me. I played the exact same game with your wife as I've played with you- the pathetic lonely woman who loved you, but I started to care too much for her. I sent agents to shoot you, not Billie, so that I could be the one she went to. But you killed her!" she hissed, tears forming in her eyes as she loaded the gun.

"No."

"No?" She laughed, "oh darling, you don't have a choice,"

"Oh but I do," I smirked and pulled my pistol from my shorts. Mina's face went from triumphant to absolutely terrified.

"Y... y/n?"

BANG.

I was at her side in a second. Why had I done that? I would never know.

"Mina... please stay with me, I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry," I sobbed, holding her close. Her crimson blood had surrounded us, and I knew that that puddle was to big to come back from.

"Hide," she whispered, before she went completely silent.

"MINA!" I screamed, shaking her. Please be a bad dream. Please be a bad dream. Please be a bad dream. I knew it wasn't a bad dream.

I kissed her temple softly and left the room and her body.

I pulled out my phone with my blood-covered hands and called Boss.

"I've completed the mission. The target's down," I said emotionlessly.

"Really?"

"Yes, ma'am. I found her in Venice. It's a mess, I need backup,"

"I'm fully aware. I'm sending someone for you both now,"

"Actually ma'am, I need to do something first,"

"You need to come back to base now l/n. Don't make me come and get you myself,"

But I had already hung up. I walked back into the bedroom and laid Mina's fragile body on the bed. I packed a quick backpack and got some money from the drawer, before going to leave the room. As I reached the door, I knew I couldn't just leave. Dropping my bag on the floor, I ran back into the bedroom and hugged Mina close, crying softly into her.

"I still love you," I sobbed quietly.

That was it. I could go now.I scanned our small flat once more, before walking out for the last time. I knew it wouldn't be long until MI6 were there, meaning I didn't have much time. I didn't trust MI6 anymore. Although I couldn't be sure if Mina had been toying with my mind, something had always seemed off about Billie during that mission, I guess now I know why.

If I didn't trust MI6, I knew they didn't trust me, meaning this final place I needed to go was possibly the last time I would ever go there again. I had put Mina to rest in the flat, but now I needed to put my wife to rest.
