Lily had left the party early. She couldn't stand all the noise. She wasn't all that sad or concerned anymore, she just wasn't a huge fan of parties. Especially those centred around James Potter.
She lay on her bed reading up on the history of the Triwizard tournament, and disliking it more with every word she read. A sudden tapping on the door made her look up from her book.
"Who is it?" She yelled.
"Uuu it's James," he shouted back, trying to be heard over the noise of the party, "James Potter," he added.
"Urgh, I know who you are james," she got off her bed and went to open the door, "there's only one James in our year or our house."
"Right yeah, I was just... making sure," he stepped into her room, and Lily returned to her bed.
"What do you want?" Lily didn't intend to sound so mean, but her words came out snappy and slightly angry.
"Oh sorry yeah," James stood awkwardly next to the door, "I was just wondering if you were okay? You weren't at the party."
Lily winced a little, feeling slightly guilty at her tone, she sighed, "just not my scene really, I'm fine thought... thanks for asking."
A slight silence ensued before Lily, realising James wasn't planning on leaving any time soon, continued, "um... what are the other competitors like?"
"Oh, Iduna and Antoine? They're lovely actually, they both play quidditch. Actually we all planned to have a mini tournament between all our teams, so we would get to play this year, you should come and watch!"
"I'm not really a big fan of quidditch," she replied simply.
"Oh," James put his hands in his pockets, feeling quite embarrassed and wondering why he thought this was a good idea.
"Oh wait Marlene's on the team so, I guess I'll probably be dragged along. Guess it's not the worst thing in the world."
"No it is not. Now that would be talking to Dumbledore alone."
Lily raised an eyebrow, "I'm sorry what?"
James lit up, he sat on the bed next to her, smiling giddily, "after we were told what to do for the challenge, Dumbledore had to walk me back to the dormitory."
"Seriously? Why? it's not like your a first year," lily had put her book down now, vaguely intrigued.
"I have no idea! It was horrible, the old man kept going on about his favourite sweets - apparently he's partial to a lemon sherbet - and he kept giving me weird life advice that sounds like it was from some kind of motivational speech."
Lily let out a short laugh, "life advice? Like what?"
"Oh god I don't remember it was so weird, he said something about being strong if we're together but weak if we're apart? Merlin, I barely remember I was just trying not to burst out laughing."
"Oh my god! I'm always so scared of being alone with him, I mean he's probably lovely, but I feel like you have to solve riddles to just have a chat."
"It was awful. It was also the slowest walk I've had in my life, it took us at least 10 minutes to get to the hall to here."
They were both laughing now. James kept telling her about the awkward walk from the hall to the dorms. Lily was laughing along, actually not as annoyed as she thought she would be when he walked in the door.
