"Be Careful Viviiana,"

"I will Gigi."

"Don't tell anyone where we live."

"I know Gigi,"

"Also, remember to watch your back." 16 year old Viviiana rolled her eyes at her grandmother's anxious behavior.

"Stop trying to spoil the school day for me," She whined, "It's my first time in private academy and I don't want it ruined by your paranoia.

her Gigi frowned at her disapprovingly, "You know full well I'm going this to keep you safe from the threat." Ah yes, the threat. All of her life Viviiana had lived constantly running away from and fearing the threat, an unknown thing that her Gigi feared more than anything else.

"Remember Viviiana your legal name is as of now Alice Brown." Viviiana sighed quietly. She knew, she knew the first time she was told. It was now time number three that Gigi was repeating the information and to be honest Viviiana was getting anxious. Constant reminders of vilagalance were bad enough, but the school speech was the worst. She had to go through it whenever she started a new school (which was often) and it never failed to put her on her guard.

"And most importantly, do not make friends Viviiana, they will only hurt you because you will have to leave them eventually." The old woman looked even more stern then before, frowning at her. She hated this rule. Because of it she only had herself and rarely Gigi for company.

She nodded, quietly murmuring " I promise not to make friends Gigi." Her Gigi smiled and all of her previous sternness evaporated. Gigi pushed her hair back gently, touching foreheads with her, "It's hard Viviiana, I know but I do this to keep you safe." Viviiana nodded, guilt tightening in her chest. It was stupid to doubt, she knew her gigi only wanted her to be safe after all.

"Now off with you. I'll see you after work."  With the dimissal Viviiana grabbed her lunch and backpack without hesitation and ran out of the apartment and down the street, swiping bread off a vendor as she went.

As she ran, the city seemed to come alive with her, people emerging, and the birds start to chirp and prepare to fly to the sweet lesbian couple on fourth that always has birdseed.  She waves at a couple people as she runs, and one or two wave back. Instantly Viviiana feels better, the validation a comfort.  She keeps running, occasionally stopping to wake when breathing got to short. Running helped Viviiana get her energy out when she was andious and a new school had to be on the top of her things that cause me major anxiety™️ list although, spiders interacting with strangers came to a close second

She started to slow as the realization of being unaware of where the academy actually was set in. Glancing around, Viviiana realized she was in the wrong part of town, so briting her lip anxiously she approached the man sitting on the bench, drinking coffee. He was clean, no dirt on the white clothes he wore. His face was crinkled into a frown, obviously absorbed on whatever he head on his phone.

"Excuse me sir?" She called, stepping closer, "Can you help me please?" The man turned around irradiation clear on his face

"Course. Where ya need to get?" He asked politely.

"The San Francisco Academy of Knowledge please."

The man laughed, "Just go back to parton street and take a left. You can't miss it." Distantly a bell rang, likely signaling the start of school. Viviiana ran out of the there cursing angrily under her breath. Following the man's advice she turned left on parton an there it was, The Academy in all its beauty. Unlike many other buildings the Academy was all imposing brick with blue turrets on the top. Biting her lip nervously, she punched in the get code (666) and walked up the pathway.

A man dressed in a navy blue suit was waiting at the entrance. He raised a polite eyebrow at her disheveled appearance and she blushed bright pink, the color matching her newly red hair.  The man let out a long suffering sigh, the kind of noise that told you he'd been dealing with too much for too long.

"Alice Brown I presume?" He asked as if he already knew the answer.

"That's me. And you are?"

"Jace End. "he responded irritably, as if they'd already wasted too much time learning each other's names.  "I'm here to take to to the headmaster's office no more no less." With that he shaved a folder at her and set off up the stairs. She frowned at his back but started to follow anyways. Jace end was a rather rude man, she didn't like him very much.

Jace kept a quick pace, walking with a purpose though the various halls. It was ll she could do to keep up with him, until he stopped at a nondescript door in the middle of the hall and opened the door."

"Headmaster," He called, "Your new student is here."

"Send them in" A deep voice called back, and she toke an instinctive step back. Jace frowned and pushed her into the room, shutting the door right after. Viviiana cursed his life under her breath. She did not want to be in the room with the scratchy voice thank you very much.

"Ms. Brown, so good to meet you." Sitting at the desk was a young woman, with dark skin and braids pulled back into a bun.  "I'm Headmaster Afia. Why don't you sit down?" She offered, gesturing to a on the opposite side of the table.

Viviiana pulled the the offered chair out and sat down on it, drumming her fingers anxiously on the side.

"As you very well know the only reason you are at my school is because of a called in favor by your grandmother. That does not mean you can slack off and get into trouble. I have no issues expelling you."

Viviiana nodded. "Yes ma'am. I promise I'll be a worthy addition to your school ma'am." The headmaster smiled at her.

"Yes I believe you will be a worthy addition indeed." She murmured to herself.

"Now," The headmaster said, standing, "Off with you.  In the folder Jace gave you you'll find your schedule and you first class has already started."  Viviiana gabbed her bag off the floor and practically flew out the door thankful to not be in the older's presence any longer.

The halls of the Academy, Viviiana decided were quite possibly the most confusing thing that she'd ever experienced. At the moment she was attempting to find Science class. The schedule said that it was in Classroom #401 but she could find any 40 anythings. It was official. She hated it here.

Murmuring to herself, Viviiana approached. the stairs, praying that her classroom would be on the second floor. Sop focused on her goal, Viviiana didn't even notice that there was another person on the stairs.

"Oh, I'm so sorry." Bending down, Viviiana started to gather up the stranger's books."

"Dont worry about it." The stranger said, warm rough voice filling up the space. Standing up, she offered the books as an act of apology and met the strangers eyes. They were a dark like her wn but they were ice cold. The  flecks of gold in in the iris only shred to make the stranger that much more intimidating. Like Viviiana the stranger wore the uniform but unlike her they made it look beautiful.

When she met the person's eyes she flinched as they smiled slow and lazily. As if they were the predator and her their prey

// Hello and thanks for reading the first chapter of I Survived No Thanks to You. If your here you probably read the welcome chapter. If not then please do. Also I love brown eyes and I think they deserve more love. That said I just wanted to tell you that Parton street is a reference to something. The first to comment with the right answer gets to be a minor character in an upcoming chapter - Valkyrie//
