<Izuku>

I was four when I learnt the true meaning of the phrase 'Not all men are born equal' after I was diagnosed to be quirkless, quite a cliche but it's the cold hard truth.

For an average person in the normal world, this wouldn't be such a big deal, but in a world where 80% of the population has superpowers they called quirks, being Quirkless was the one-way ticket to anyone's living hell.

A quick lesson on the history of quirks.

The first Meta Ability was manifested by a newborn baby in Qing Qing City, China with the ability to radiate light from its body. After this phenomenon, many people around the world began to manifest different kinds of superpowers, which became known as Meta Abilities.

While the cause of this phenomenon is unknown, it has been theorized that it was caused by the spread of a previously unknown virus carried by mice, although this theory had no hard evidence.

The dawn of this extraordinary era was marred by a breakdown of society caused by the sudden onslaught of criminals empowered by their newfound "superpowers" and ordinary people being prejudiced against the new minority.

As chaos and unrest ensued due to the outbreak of Meta Abilities, ordinary civilians decided to take matters into their own hands to bring order to society, and thus the first "heroes" appeared in the form of Vigilantes, beginning the Vigilantes Era.

At some point, a woman gave birth to a son named Chikara Yotsubashi. As Chikara grew up, he faced a lot of discrimination and abuse for having a Meta Ability. His mother supported him, stating that her son's Meta Ability is just a quirk of his.

Although at the time, her message was scorned and even led to her murder, decades later, "Quirk" became the most common term for such Meta Abilities, and she retroactively became known as the Mother of Quirks.

As society adapted to the new status quo, the Police Force moved to prioritize leadership and to maintain the status quo, and as such, decided not to use Quirks as weapons. To fill that void, the profession of crime-fighting Quirk users, Pro Heroes, began to exist, starting in Rhode Island, USA, which caused the Vigilantes to slowly disappear.

Authorizing the use of powers that could so easily kill, however, was a greatly criticized decision at first, but eventually became accepted as a legitimate occupation. This became known as the "Advent of the Extraordinary".

End of history lesson I guess.

Anyway, the diagnosis of being quirkless basically pushed all my friends away, turning most of them into bullies. It was either that or me being ignored by everybody, and I mean everybody. Well, except mom. But being quirkless didn't discourage me from trying to be a hero.

Oh right, I want to be a hero like All Might. He is the World's Number 1 Hero, the strongest there is. But that's not why I like him, I like him because he saves people with a smile, giving them hope and not just defeating the villains like other heroes. He was my second inspiration to never give up.

The first went to my mom. She worked 2 jobs so I could buy some of All Might figurines. She was great and made the best Katsudon. Most people got their quirks before the age of 4, there were also some individuals who got their quirk by the age of 8. Meaning I could still have a quirk. That is had I not have an extra bone in my foot that according to the doctors made it impossible for me to ever have a quirk.

Impossible in a regular manner. Let's just say things changed a lot once they showed up. Why don't you see for yourself?

After all, this is the origin of the shield that saved the world.

<Narrator's POV>

Age 10: A Playground near Izuku's house

Izuku walked into the park to see his childhood best friend, Katsuki Bakugou, picking on a kid.

"You're so weak, you should give up on your dream of being a hero, there's no way you'll ever be a hero!" Bakugou tells the boy, trying to scare him with his explosions before he pushed him down.

Not wanting to see anymore, Izuku decided to intervene, getting between the boy and his friend. "Stop it Kaachan, you're hurting him!!!" Izuku shouts.

"And what are you gonna go, Deku!" Katsuki says, "Try and stop me?"

"I will, I-if I-I have t-to." Izuku says before he soon becomes the one to receive explosions.

"You can't even protect yourself Deku, you don't even have a quirk and you dream of being a hero. You're lucky that you're even allowed to attend school!" Bakugou says as he punches Izuku, knocking him to the ground.

"You should give up on your dream of being a hero, there's no way you'll ever be a hero without a quirk." Bakugou says as hits Izuku with his friends holding the boy, preventing him from defending himself.

Izuku stood there, receiving each hit, bleeding from his wounds, crying as he got hit. In the distance, a man stood atop a tree looking down on the ground.

"Sir, I hope you can forgive me for breaking the rules, but I have to intervene" The man mutters as he jumps down. He walks to Bakugou, grabbing his shoulder. "That's enough. Beat it!" He tells Bakugou.

"Why do you care?" Bakugou shouts.

"By all means continue but then you'd spend the rest of your life locked up in prison for killing someone." He tells Bakugou, glaring at him.

"Tch!" Bakugou turns to look at the beaten and bruised Izuku. The boy stood unconscious, with blood leaking out of his forehead. "We're leaving." Bakugou says as his two friends drop Izuku and follow him.

"Alright, let's get you some medical attention." The man says as he unlocks his phone and dials a number. "Teleport me to the base right now. Code Red on Subject Theta. I repeat, Code Red on Subject Theta. Requesting immediate assistance!"

Just as he ends the call, a portal opens up to his left. "Why does it always have to be on my left" The man sighs as he walks through the portal.

On the other side, two men dressed in white lab coats take Izuku from him, carefully placing him on a stretcher and wheeling him away to get some medical attention.

"Rookie, call his mother and teleport her here. We'll have to start training for Subject Theta earlier than planned." The man orders as he walks in the direction where Izuku was taken.
