"You need not worry, there is no imminent attack. The city is safe while the Federation currently defends our stars." The electronic feminine voice responded reassuringly.
"Are you sure? After this current episode I'm surprised nobody else is on the edge about impending danger." I added, placing beside the info-card I was reading.
"Affirmative, over 98% of the Aurora Units infected by the corruption virus were treated effectively and we are currently processing methods to further protect civilians. Be at ease, the Pirates will not strike while we remain active, nor insinuate an attack when the solar system is fiercely protected." The voice confirmed knowledgeably. "I've detected an information card containing vast knowledge concerning the Stone Giants of planet Gilgamesh and the Olibeast migration on moon SZ-712, both extraordinary environments within the same solar system. Would you like to read it?"
I smiled at the small holographic image of a mechanical brain-entity. "Sure thing 301. Do you have anything about the ice wielders of Phrygis? I met a bounty hunter from there four years ago, and I think he was there during the Norion attack. I'd like to know what kind of place he came from."
"Of course." 301 replied without question, in that instant two metallic info-cards materialized before a small portal.
"Thanks." I said as I snatched the cards out of the air. Taking the card that said Moon Phrygis of Gas Giant Bess III: A land of Ice and Stone, I plucked the small button in the corner. The card expanded into a tablet sized screen with electronic lettering and arrows on the bottom. Soon enough I was engulfed in cybernetic letters of the distant moon's foreign environment, and its gruff and resilient Sentients.
The city library was a place of peace and silence for me and an adventure within itself. Each of the million info cards contained a different story with different worlds to explore without even leaving the planet. I loved the library since I was a small child and lost sense of time whenever I was immersed in a tale I've read. Ziir the Librarian introduced me to this place as a tot and allowed me to borrow whatever cards I wished under permanent membership. He now stood somewhere in the halls, organizing the endless info- cards at the Aurora Unit's regard, instead of keeping a watchful gaze on me like in the days of my childhood.
It was here that I often sought out evidence of my past, of Zebes and the Chozo once living in it, though it was barely enough of an answer.
"We do not contain extensive information of Zebes, as the cards were unfortunately destroyed during the Pirate raid on the planet." 301 once said disappointed. "Feel free to diverge into whatever knowledge we possess, though it is little."
Aurora Unit 301 was no doubt the Master Librarian and the true curator of this place. She oversaw the entire library, managing each info-card within its vast walls, keeping record of what was in stock, what cards were needed, who borrowed what, and when they should return it. She did all of this in a single thought process, a feat extraordinary to even the brightest Sentient, but only a trait to the remarkable supercomputer.
I knew the Aurora Unit for many years despite never actually seeing her in person. Aurora Units don't grow attached to people as a rule but somehow, we developed a sort of kinship. She knew me well and I knew her, to the point where she knew exactly what type of cards I liked and even recommended a few I would grow deeply interested in. When I was little I'd sit in the corner of the library and connect with the AU hologram allowing me to communicate with her, asking every question I could possibly imagine, and she'd answer them in full. Some days I stayed for hours soaking up her knowledge like a sponge until Skye picked me up. Once, Ziir told me to leave her alone and let her do her job, but 301 assured him I wasn't bothering her and enjoyed my company teaching me about the millions of things I asked her about. She was patient when others weren't, and we became close acquaintances as I matured.
