Sealing My Fate (Like I Had Any Other Choice)

I don't know how long I was asleep, nor what had happened afterwards. What I do know is the moment I woke up a great change overcame me. My strength returned, and the drowsiness passed. I stepped out of bed with a clarity I never felt before, confident for the future. Not a trace of fear stirred, and any uncertainty had washed away with my deepened slumber.

I was ready handle anything the world could throw at me. I looked into a small mirror and examined my human body. I looked the same as I did before my first transformation, a slender young woman with flowing brown-auburn hair and a brash look in her eyes. However, I wasn't unchanged. My long legs had become muscular, as well as my arms. My toes became as prehensile as my own fingers, as grasped a nearby pen with ease. My face is angular than before. My teeth are still human teeth but with the edges more pointed.

If a passerby saw me as I was now or even a curious onlooker, they wouldn't notice anything different about me. I looked the same as any other human in existence. Only if they watched with keen stare, they would probably notice a subtle thing or two. The only real giveaway that I was perhaps more than ordinary were my eyes. These eyes weren't entirely human anymore; they had a sharp, feral look in them, steel with intensity and intimidating. but my emerald irises gained richer depth as if you stared deep into a rare gem. The mark in my left eye is more pronounced and my sharp gaze cuts deep within my own reflection. They looked wild, concealing an inhuman sentience deep within their gaze.

Dragon's eyes. I though intrigued to myself. How cool is that?

Somebody knocks at the door. At first I'm startled, ready to fight back if needed, but relax when I remember what the dignified voice said to the Head Officer. He is probably here to explain what is going on, and I bet he's unsure if I'm going to pummel him or not. I relax my fists and take a deep sigh. I won't give him a hard time. This time I'll keep calm. I'll listen to him with an open mind and reassure that I'm not going to tear him to shreds.

The door knocks again and this time I answer. "Come on in." To my biggest surprise, it's not the Head Quarantine Officer but the woman who led me into the room earlier. She wears a confident smile on her face and her eyes shown sympathetic warmth. "Hello Zailania, it's good to see you're awake again. How are you feeling?"

I scratched the back of my head. "Pretty good. Lot better than before. What's up?" I responded awkwardly. It felt so strange to speak amiably to another human again, especially when I was used to speaking with marshland deer telepathically. The woman nodded. "Good. You've been out quite a while, a day to be exact. You slept a long time after the medicine wore off. The other Officers were about to wake you if you hadn't done so yourself. You must have been exhausted."

"You have no idea." I responded dryly. "I'm rested enough, now I'm up and ready to go." "I'm glad." The doctor said optimistically. "We've tested your blood for biohazards. You've got a clean bill of health and ready to leave. You'll need to go to the meeting room, there are several important officials waiting to meet you. One of them requested to speak to you in person. He'll tell you everything you need to know and transport you home again, but first you'll need a change of clothes and retrieve your belongings. I'll show you the bathroom, so you can get dressed." The doctor led me through an array of hallways past vaulted doors and beeping machines.

I attentively watched the workers, examine them attending to the computers or entering data into holograms. The air was cool and there was a faint scent of antiseptic as we walked through the Quarantine areas. I've never been on a Skybase before, but I knew what to expect from one. They were vast air bases miles above a planet's surface that served as security and bio hazard checkpoints for interplanetary travelers before landing on the surface. Skybases were found on each planet under Federation territory, exclusively catering to G.F soldiers and members. Our planet, being the home of the Galactic Federation, had the record 65, the most Skybases of all. They were known to be notoriously huge. It was said you could fit an entire Olympus class gunship in a Skybase and have room for two more. Not only did one hold a quarantine area, but an enormous docking bay and dozens of meeting rooms for elite congressmen to converse.
