I was nervous. Today I was going to meet my parents and bring along my girlfriend to introduce her to them. We've been dating for a while and I finally want to show my parents who I've been seeing all this time without hiding who I am or who I love.

I woke up next to her in our apartment and she was still sleeping. How cute. We live together and after I bring her to my parents I want to propose so we can start a new chapter of our lives together and start a family.

I stretched out on the bed and got up. I felt really groggy but I went to shower and get myself ready for the day. We weren't meeting my parents until lunch and it was only 8:00am so we had plenty of time to lounge around.

I went downstairs to make breakfast and checked my phone to see if I had any missed calls or texts from anyone. I had one text from my mom:

Mom:
"We are so happy to be having lunch with you sweetie! Thank you for fitting us in your schedule and we can't wait to see you! Do you have a boyfriend you're bringing to meet us? Is that why this lunch was planned so suddenly?"

She always texts in paragraphs because she doesn't like calling. Maybe that's where I get it from because I don't like calling people either. It's too bothersome and I'm bad with words.

I felt a little bothered when she asked if I had a boyfriend but maybe it just irked me because I'm already with my lovely girlfriend and I couldn't imagine myself with a guy. I type out my reply:

Me:
"Of course mom, I miss you and dad too and I'm so excited to see you both even if it was short notice. Yes, I do actually have someone that I'm bringing to show you and I hope you like them as much as I do because that would mean a lot to me and I'm planning something big for them. We'll see you soon. Love you❤️"

I put my phone down for a minute to make sure breakfast was fixed nicely so I could bring it to her up in bed but I guess she had different plans because I felt a warm body behind me and her hands wrap around my waist as she snuggled into me.

"Morning baby. Did you make breakfast for us?" She muffles into my back.

"Morning to you too hon. I did make breakfast for us today. Did you have a good sleep?" I say.

"Mhm, I did sleep well. We are meeting your parents later today right?" She asks.

I replied "Yes we are. We're going to see them at lunchtime. My mom texted me this morning asking if I'm bringing someone and I said yes so I think they're excited too. Let me just put this stuff on the plates and we can eat. Can you set the table for me babe?"

As she goes to set the table I feel a vibration from my phone. I pull it out to check what it was. It was another text from my mom:

Mom:
"Oh that's wonderful! Our dear daughter finally has a man! We can't wait to meet him and learn all about him! I hope you've been treating him good and cooking well for him too. Wouldn't him running away from you now, would we? Im just kidding sweetie, I'm sure he loves you. We'll see you soon and we love you too!❤️❤️"

Now I was really getting worried for her to meet them. All the doubts start coming in as I'm thinking: what if they don't like her? Will they accept us and their daughter liking women? They always seemed like open minded people, that's why I wanted to show my girlfriend to them. Is this a bad idea? What's gonna happen?

Eventually she was done setting the table and I was just standing still staring at the plates zoned out in my head. She came over to me and asked if everything was okay.
