Quick note: this was originally a poem I wrote that I decided to add a plot or little story to so the poem is in italics and has ~ around it. Enjoy!!

~Breakups are hard and they suck~

You were sitting in the local bar, staring into your glass half empty and wondering where it all went wrong.

~Its like losing a part of your heart that you gave to them to hold and protect in return for theirs~

You remember meeting her for the first time and how smitten you both were for each other. Staring into her eyes and seeing that shy smile was what got you hooked.

~Its supposed to be a mutual feeling of love, respect, trust, communication, and care which shouldn't be broken~

Getting home from work early one night, you went into your shared room in the apartment you had together, only to see someone else in bed with her. You froze and she noticed your presence in the doorway before you turned around and ran out of the apartment.

~And in the end you know the risks of putting your heart in someones hands but you still do it anyways~

You couldn't believe what you saw. You were so shocked that the love of your life, had just cheated on you. It seemed like it was going on for a while before you found out too. Your heart and mind were conflicted. On the one hand, you loved her so much that you would do anything for her like forgive her for cheating on you with someone else in your bed. On the other hand though, she went behind your back and was seeing someone while being "committed" to you which technically wasn't true anymore, and showed you that she clearly didn't love you as much as you loved her.

~You want a partner you can laugh with, cry with, share excitement, and experience life with~

You remember all the happy memories you had together. When you got your dream job, when she got a promotion, when you were singing out loud not paying attention and fell down the stairs, when her dog passed away of old age, when you went on walks and saw old couples being happy, promising each other that in the future that would be you together.

~Because you don't want to be alone.

And yet, if you give them your heart and they don't care for it, was it all worth the vulnerability?
The risk to lose all that you had with them?~

You decided to confront her about it. You figured that because you both were adults and had good communication with each other, whatever happened could be worked out.

You were wrong.

That confrontation was one of the worst arguments you've ever had with her that cracked your relationship even more apart than it was before. With both of your work schedules starting to get really busy, it was hard to find a lot of time to have to relax together or even see each other around the apartment.

You have never been so distraught over an argument before. When you tried to approach the topic, she had closed herself off completely from you and wouldn't let you in to talk calmly about the situation.

You thought that would be the worst point it would get to. Then the yelling started.

It got so bad, that you started shaking and crying. You were scared to be there because she wouldn't calm herself. You tried to come up with a compromise but she kept shutting you down, and wouldn't let you say anything.

So, you gave up and left. You slept at your friend's house for two days before she called you and said that she wanted to break up. She told you that she had gotten all her stuff and went to go live with the person that you found in your bed with her that night, and that the apartment was empty so you could have it.
