Here it is boys!  5k special (technically 6k now, holy shit).  Wilbur is your childhood friend and you basically stick together for your whole life.  It jumps around quite a bit to get through to the present day and there's just a little snippet of angst towards the end.  Also, I'm not from the UK, I'm from the US, so if any of the terms for things in the UK are wrong, I'm sorry, I did my best.

Enjoy! (Twinboo chapter is coming, I just wanted to get this out before we got too far from 5k)

Ever since you were little, you had a best friend. William. Though he also went by Wilbur or Wil. You were always together, having sleepovers and staying up late whispering stories to one another. They weren't always true, in fact a true story was more rare than a fantastical one you came up with. Huddled under the sheets, a torch between you as you giggled at the way his face caught the light. He was telling a story about a prince falling for another prince, how they rode together on giant dogs to start their own kingdom.

You and your best friend loved to cuddle, to squeeze in next to one another during a sleepover and fall asleep tangled together. There was a comfort to it, knowing someone you cared for so deeply was right there. They'd be there when you woke up, either in the morning or if a nightmare woke you up in the middle of the night.

As you grew older, many other pairs of friends grew apart but you and Wilbur stayed attached at the hip, going through school pretty much together. When he picked up guitar, you were right there to encourage him, going over during his practicing to give him positive words and listen. It seemed like he had a new song to show you every other week, face bright with excitement as he sat you down on his bed and played for you. At one point, he learned your favorite song just to play it for you on your 14th birthday, smiling widely as he also sang along, cheeks turning a little pink.

Your face also heated up slightly, getting hotter and hotter as the song went on and you listened to his voice. Eventually, you started singing along. Your voices melded together easily, having done this many times before, but it felt... different this time. Something about the way you looked at each other had changed, but neither of you wanted to mention it. When he finished, there was a beat of silence where he just held his hand over the strings of the guitar, smiling shyly at you. "Happy Birthday."

You smiled back, blushing lightly. "Thank you..."

As soon as you entered secondary school, you slowly became more and more aware of why your feelings towards Wilbur seemed to have changed. You'd fallen for him, and it became all the more evident as the dating scene in school changed drastically. Before, you didn't pay attention to it because people got together and then broke up a week later, causing tears and more drama than you wanted to deal with. A couple times., a girl would come up to yours and Wilbur's table at lunch and try to ask him out on a date, whatever that looked like back then, and he always politely declined. It seemed like he didn't want to be involved in whatever was going on there either.

One late night, you were both laying out on Wilbur's bed, side by side and breathing softly. "Someone asked me out again yesterday..." Your schedules didn't line up totally right then, your lunch periods different. "I told her to ask me again tomorrow..."

You felt a slight ache in your chest before you turned to look at him, giving him a quizzical look. "Why'd you say that? Usually you just... say no."

He shrugged, eyes meeting yours. "Gotta try it eventually, right?"

You hesitated before nodding slowly. "I... guess..." He seemed to relax when you confirmed his thoughts, putting his arms behind his head.
