"Steph! Give it a rest" Kristie commanded in a hushed voice.
"What? This is the perfect opportunity! Do you know how many times she pranked me at Chicago? I seriously lost count." Steph leaned over Sam, a whipped cream can in her hand ready to cause mayhem.
"Leave her alone. She's really tired so let her rest." Kristie snatched the can from Steph's hand before she could do any damage and basically pushed her back out into the kitchen.
"Yeah sure...tired. Fine but you better wake her up because dinners nearly ready." Steph pouted rounding the corner.
Kristie smiled at the sight of Sam lying on the couch, her right forearm covering her face. She looked exhausted but yet still so beautiful.
They had been together for a fair few months now. Kristie thought it was like fate, they both found each other at a time when they weren't really looking for anything.
—— flashback
Kristie, Steph and her sister Sam were heading out for a night on the town. Kristie and Steph had flown into London to visit her sister who was playing in the UK during the NWSL offseason. They decided to head out and enjoy all that the night life in London had to offer whilst they were in town.
Little did Kristie know that she was going to meet someone who was going to completely change her life in an instant.
They were having drinks with a few of Sams teammates after their game against Chelsea at Wembley which they had unfortunately lost. Much to the delight of the subdued City players, a couple of loud Chelsea girls waltzed into the bar obviously still on a high after their win. Kristie wasn't paying much attention to them but she did notice a couple of familiar faces. One in particular.
"Hey Sam, is that Sam Kerr?" Kristie discreetly pointed towards a table on the other side of the room. The striker was sipping on a drink in front of her at the end of the table, sitting quietly like she didn't want to draw any attention to herself. She looked somewhat sad as she stirred her drink with a straw. The striker smiled occasionally at her teammates when the conversation was directed to her.
"Yes. Why?" Sam was blunt.
"No reason."
"Please do not get involved with her." Sam was already reading Kristie's mind. "It won't end well."
"What? I was just asking." Kristie shrugged at her sister unsure what she meant by that, before getting back into the groups conversation.
Later on in the night Kristie backed away from the table still laughing at something Sam had just said. It was her shout so she quickly made her way through the crowd towards the bar. Not really paying attention to where she was walking, she all of a sudden came to a stop with a thud knocking someone to the ground. Glass shattered as the person hit the floor.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry!" Kristie knelt down immediately picking up some of the larger glass pieces scattered on the ground.
"It's fine! I ran into you." The accent immediately lifting Kristie's gaze, staring straight into two dark eyes glistening at her.
Wow Kristie thought. She was lost for words.
"Wow yourself."
Kristie was immediately brought out of her frozen state mortified she had just said that out loud and not just in her mind.
"I didn't take you for the speechless type." A cheeky grin spreading wide on the Australian's face.
"I- I'm usually not." Kristie's confidence kicked back in. "I guess I just wasn't expecting to see the 'Sam Kerr' at a local bar. Thought you would be a bit more upmarket than this."
