24 | A Helping Hand

"I'm reporting live from Eknou Street in Hosu City where, just after 9 PM last night, the number two hero Endeavor arrested the infamous Hero Killer 'Stain.' This villain is responsible for the most quirk-based injuries in recent history, targetting beloved heroes across Japan..."

Every major news network has been commenting on Stain's defeat in intricate detail since early this morning and, with the official press release Tsuragamae gave just over an hour ago, every minor network was, as well.

Which is kind of an issue at this very moment.

"How good are you at gaslighting?" I ask, peering over Izuku's shoulder as even more texts emerge from the class' group chat.

"Better than you'd think," Izuku admits with a smile. "But this is some pretty cut-and-dry evidence."

A new text. Kirishima and Kaminari have been theorizing about Izuku's involvement with Stain for ten minutes now. They've already deduced that Shoto was there since he was interning with his father, as well as myself since it was Native who was attacked. Tenya is safe... for now.

"As the class rep, I think it's only fair we're honest with them," Tenya says, struggling to open a water bottle with a combined effort of his armpit and his teeth. I'd offer a hand but... yeah. "Midoriya had no way of knowing how the situation would turn out when he sent it. Chief Tsuragamae can't hold it against him."

"He could," I argue. "Very easily, actually."

"Only if he knew about it," Shoto jumps in casually.

My jaw drops slightly. "You want us to lie to the chief of police?"

"Think of it as a compromise, Toshiba," Shoto quotes, causing my jaw to drop. "Sometimes, being a hero means making difficult choices."

"You messy bitch," I tease. I've never seen so much attitude from Shoto, but he is on it today.

Izuku 6:24 PM

"Loaded question," I murmur, watching as a few 'typing' markers appear.

Izuku nods, glancing over at the other two boys in the room. Shoto crossed the room to help Tenya open the water bottle. "I don't want to worry them, but they're going to know eventually."

He types a few different messages before settling on:

I smile at Mina's message. Without thinking, I reach over Izuku's shoulder with my left hand to like the message, only to find gauze where my fingers should be. Oh, right.
