For the record, I've never been drunk.
There are dozens of reasons I can probably blame – my age, an aggressive lack of partying at Sakura-Price, or even Ms. Itsumi's begs for me not to after she read a few too many 'post-grief alcoholism' articles. Still, it doesn't change the fact that not a drop of alcohol has passed my lips. So, I can't say with full certainty what a hangover would feel like.
But I have a sneaking suspicion this is pretty damn close.
"Shit," I hiss, popping a single eye open just wide enough to glare at the light filtering through my window. It's not nearly high enough for me to be awake or nearly bright enough to provoke such a headache. "Let me sleep, you motherfucker."
"Such language, what are those hero kids teaching you?"
Despite the pain loitering in every single one of my limbs, I force myself upright. I barely get a glimpse of the figure lying right behind me or the two standing beside my bed before a wave of dizziness crashes through my skull and sends me sprawling on the floor.
"Ouch, that's gotta hurt," the voice says again, followed by the sound of shuffling on top of my duvet. Within a few seconds, a head of green hair appears over the edge. "Are you okay?"
"Jesus, Luciel," I groan, my muscles all but melting into the hardwood. The head above me offers a mischievous grin. "You could have killed me."
"Lies told by my enemies," he protests, resting his chin on his folded hands.
Beside him, Sohona and Mei reveal themselves. The latter smacks Luciel's arm as Sohona offers me an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry Lucy tried to kill you."
"Hey, don't take her side!" Luciel scoffs, returning Mei's hit.
"Wouldn't be the first time," I say, completely ignoring Luciel in favor of trying to get myself into a sitting position. It takes three separate attempts to come face to face with the three of them lying horizontally on my bed. "Probably won't be the last."
"More hearsay," Luciel argues, shaking his head. "But if it weren't, it's Koyasu's fault. She just has such a killable face."
"There's this thing on the other side of my room called a 'door'," I deadpan, fighting the urge to roll my eyes. Even my facial muscles feel sore. "Feel free to walk through it."
"No can do, we have big plans today," Mei declares, rolling off the bed into a standing position. "Welcome to Hangout Sunday."
I cock my head at her words. "One problem with that: it's Saturday."
"Okay, technically, yes," Mei shrugs as if her decision were the most logical thing in the world. "But you canceled tomorrow, which totally goes against our custody agreement. Ergo, we're here today."
"Custody agreement?" Sohona asks, joining her girlfriend in her standing position. Luciel is right behind her. The three loom over me like the Men in Black, waiting to erase my memory.
"Sure," Luciel says. "We get one day together for every five she spends playing hero. I personally think it's unfair, but such is life."
"I spent the entirety of yesterday sprinting, fighting, or some combination of the both. So please excuse me if this hero needs to break the custody agreement this once."
"This hero can take a Tylenol and deal with it. It's time to play!" Luciel pleads.
I look to Sohona, my beautiful voice of reason, for help, but she just shakes her head. "Mom says I'm not allowed to threaten him anymore, so I got nothing. You're on your own."
