CHAPTER TWELVE

Earth Shaking Kiss

I blinked, confused by what had just happened. Suddenly it felt as if dreaming and reality had morphed into one. Here I was, sitting upright, staring towards the mass of tangled sheets. I had just woken up from a dream, a perfect dream, a mind blowing kiss that felt real.

My eyes focused on the nights shadows that filtered through my room. I cautiously lifted my hand to touch my lips. They still felt warm from his kiss.

I quickly lifted myself from the pile of blankets that had formed around me and walked around my room, my hands clutched my aching head as I tried to make out what was dream and what was reality.

Although I was disappointed, I reminded myself that River knew what had happened, in a sense it was real, even more so than it would have been if I were awake.

My eyes widened as I darted towards my door. I had to see River, I just had to. My hand reached out and turned the doorknob, I took a step out into the hallway and before I knew it, someone was pushing me back into my room again.

I gasped as I saw River standing in front of me, his eyes shining with unspoken laughter.

We stood still amidst our ticking time, as we mended reality and both understood we had been dreaming. We had shared a dream, living together, understanding one another, and suddenly we were kissing.

A beautiful kiss that couldn't be broken, we were under the most powerful spell imaginable, we had become one big mess that couldn't tell reality from dreams, and that's just how we wanted it.

Even if it had been a dream, he was here now and we would remember this earth shaking kiss, forever. I did as my heart told me to and brought him closer to me, feeling as if I might melt into his body. He didn't object to my hunger as his arms wrapped around my body.

His lips were softer than they were the first time, they felt like a cloud, and I was breathing him in like the air I lived off. His skin was warmer than they it was before.

It all became too much, like an intoxicating fume that filled my lungs, I quickly pushed away to breathe. If it were up to me I would have stayed there, our lips locked as my mind went foggy.

"Did you have the same dream I did?" I asked.

River rolled his eyes and move closer to me "Yeah. I thought it was obvious," he answered as he looked into my eyes.

"Right," I said placing my hand flat on my chest.

"God, you've gone red," he said laughing.

"Shut up," I retorted defensively.

River was silent for a moment as he took a deep breath. I followed his action and inhaled the smooth scent of pine. We both exhaled as our gazes roamed one another's faces. I knew we were both desperate for answers in our world of hidden secrets but I silently urged him to let go.

"What now?" I asked River.

"We rest," he grabbed my hand and led me to the bed, I followed closely behind him and rested onto the pile of covers I had left. River took his place next to me and nuzzled into my neck.

"I have these moments where I remember the past, like snippets of a movie," he said.

I looked into his eyes a smile gracing my lips, as if telling him 'tell me.'

River nodded, somehow knowing what I meant.

"It was you, laughing, just that," he said, looking towards me.
