"Anesthesia, this case should be wrapped up within ten minutes" I voiced to the anesthesiologist on call as I finished closing up an operation on a successful heart transplant.

I'd been in this operating room for hours and I was so relieved to know that I was at the home stretch of this procedure. My exhaustion and fatigue was overshadowed by the joy of knowing that my patient who'd been on the waitlist for a year and a half had finally gotten a second chance at life. This was the most fulfilling thing about being a cardiovascular surgeon. Giving people second chances at healthy lives and literally fixing broken hearts day in and day out. It wasn't all sunshine and happiness by far, but it was worth it every time I got to see a patient's heart beat and pump healthily after dealing with trauma.

"And with this last suture, we'll be ending right on schedule" I voiced as I finished closing the final wound from my first incision of the operation.

Once everything was all stitched and sewn together again, I placed my tools in the tray and finally took a deep breath from seeing that I'd successfully completed another transplant.

"Levels?" I asked the nurse as I wanted to make sure everything was good.

"All levels show signs of an accepted, working heart. No signs of rejection" She answered and that made me nod in satisfaction as that usually meant that we could safely say that the organ was gonna be just fine in its new body.

From hearing that, I then began the concluding process of the operation which continued to go smoothly until my work was all done and the case was now finished.

"As always, great work Dr. Knowles" my colleague praised as I got out of my dirty scrubs and cleaned myself up. Once I was back in clean work attire, I ventured into the hallway where I was greeted with multiple comments of good job from the residents, observing interns and passing colleagues.

"Thanks guys" I told them all as I walked to the locker room to get undressed for work since my shift was finally over.

"Finished right at 12:00 Dr. K. Impressive" one of the residents voiced as all of the other nurses and doctors in the locker room continued to get ready for their shift to end.

"I had a little extra motivation to be as on time as possible today" I slightly replied as I took my motorcycle helmet out of my locker.

"And why did the clock hitting 12:00am motivate you so much?" An intern asked in genuine confusion which made me smile from the question.

"It's now officially April 4th" I simply answered as I got the last of my belongings in my hands.

"Which is significant because..?" The intern continued to curiously ask.
