nothing happened again to matt that night, thank god. in the morning the first thing i did was run down to his cell to find him still laying in bed, groaning.

"my chest hurts so bad," he ached, holding a hand over the wound.

"well, lets go down to alex to get some pain killers then," i said, helping him up. we went down the hall, turning to the right. and just when we finally got there, both matt and i stopped dead in our tracks. there were the madden twins and two guards standing in front of alex's cell. benji was holding a bag filled with god knows what in his hand. i looked into the cell, and saw alex curled up in a ball on his heavily tattooed cellmate's lap, who held a firm hand over his mouth. he was in pain, i could tell by his muffled screams. benji put a hand into the bag, pulling out a bottle of pills, alex's pills. he was going through withdrawal.

"this what you want alex?" he smirked, shaking the bottle so the pills would rattle. alex let out another scream, only to be muffled by the hand over his mouth.

"let go of his mouth, kyakki, i wanna hear him scream," joel told guy holding alex. he shook his head no, and still grasped onto alex's body, trying to comfort the thrashing form. joel nodded to the guards, who then proceeded to go into the cell and yank kyakki off of him. when he tried to struggle, the mass of tattoos was hit with a baton several times until he gave in and released his cellmate. as soon as he did, alex let out the most horrible noise i ever heard. i covered my ears as  the sound pierced my eardrums. matt stood there, not even bothering to cover his ears. he looked at the maddens with hate in his eyes.

"how ya feeling varkatzas?"benji laughed at the curled up mass on the floor. by now alex was clutching his stomach and kicking his feet, still screaming at the top of his lungs.

"if you want them back, you know what you have to do," joel whispered as he lowered down to alex's eye level,"tell us."

alex raised his head slightly, looking joel dead in the eye.

"never," he muttered, and then he spit in joel's face. i gasped; matt laughed. joel wiped off his face in disgust as he stood back up.

"don't expect these back,"he said taking the bag from benji,"and don't think i don't know who you are alex, or should i say ektor" he hissed. with that he turned away from the cell, passing by me and matt. benji followed, pushing through us. fucking asshole. when the twins were gone, we went over to alex's cell, going inside and sitting beside him. he had stop screaming, but he was still in the fetal position. i rubbed his back while he choked back tears. matt just sat there, silent. after what seemed like forever, matt finally spoke.

"so you're ektor varkaztas, eh?" matt said with a cocked eyebrow. alex nodded, biting his lip in pain. what is up with this ektor business?

as if reading my mind, matt answered my question, "ektor was the biggest hit man in greece. he came here and continued the business. when the search for him started, ektor changed his name to alex. alex was caught with only one murder on his belt instead of what, hundreds."

my eyes widened, "hundreds!"

"yea, and you thought thirty was bad," he said smiling. i look down at the body in my arms. this man killed hundreds of people? but he looks so vulnerable, crying on the floor.

"alright ektor,"matt continued only to be interrupted with a barely audible "don't call me ektor" from the floor.

"fine, fine," matt shrugged,"ALEX, what were the maddens trying to get you to tell them."

"i'm not telling you" alex hissed.

"fine, fine." i thought matt would drop it, but just then i was thrown off of alex and matt was on top of him, pinning him down by his shoulders.

"matt what are you doing!" i shouted, but matt didn't listen, retaining his hold on alex's struggling body. he dug his hands into alex's stomach, causing him to yelp in pain. he sounded like a wounded puppy.

"stop it matt!" i shouted again, but matt didn't stop.

"tell me what you know EKTOR!" matt roared, giving alex a swift punch to the stomach. alex groaned, letting out a gagging sound as he tried to hold back vomit.

"alright," he hufffed, "i'll tell you. just get off me!"

"nope, cant do that. i dont trust you more than i can throw you."

"fair enough," alex sighed. i waited in anticipation. "i know how to escape" alex whispered. both of our eyes widened.

"you know how to escape!"

"shut up zacky!" matt ordered. "how do you know how to escape?"

"well," alex began,"this place is really old, so naturally there are places that even the warden doesn't know of. i found a hollow spot in the ground in one of the hallways they closed off. me and kyakki tore a hole in it and found a room under there. it used to be used as some kinda torture room or some shit. anyway, there's a window that you can get out of. i checked around the area outside the window, and the guard towers cant see over there. there's also an outlet box that controls the alarm and the lights."

i couldn't believe it. there's a way out! matt was grinning.

"why haven't you escaped yet then?" i asked. alex looked up at me, still struggling beneath matt's weight.

"i don't have anyone to escape with," he sighed, "see, there needs to be more than one person in charge. someone's gotta distract the guards, and there needs to be more than one person running out."

"why?" why am i so nosy?

"safety in numbers" he replied with a weak smile, returning to trying to push matt off of him, "can you get off me!"

"whoops, sorry bout that," matt laughed, rolling off him. alex sat up, fluffing his hair back in place. matt stood up, motioning me to follow.

"we're getting food, wanna come?" he asked. i never saw matt be so nice to anyone other than me.

"i don't think i can eat right now," he groaned.

"well at least come to the lunchroom with us, so you can get out of this room," matt said. again with the niceness. i'm guessing only because varkatzas knows how to get out. alex nodded in agreement, slowly making his way to his feet.i helped steady him as he wobbled back and forth. i realized i'd have to be helping him to the lunchroom since he couldn't even take one step without practically falling on his face. matt laughed as i continually tried to steady him.

"shut up and help!" i yelled, nearly dropping alex on the ground. matt sighed reluctantly, but decided to help. he picked alex up and draped him over his shoulder in one swift motion. he looked like a ragdoll as he bounced around with every step. i couldn't help but laugh at the sight, occasionally fluffing the hair on alex's head back in place. when we got there, matt dropped him in one the chairs at our table, right next to johnny. johnny stared at him for a second, then returned to his tray.

"why is he here?" brian asked, seeming to be annoyed.

"he's our new friend," matt replied with a wide grin.

"why?"

"because he's gonna get us out of here."
